MAkeup case / stacked trolley thingy

Calling Azhia and any other MUAs out there ...

I'm after a stacked makeup case/trolley thing so I can cart my goodies around with me and keep them safe from breakage etc. There are lots on eBay but I hae no idea which are the good makes and which are rubbish, so if anyone has any advice it would be most welcome!

I don't use them so I wouldn't know what to recommend for a good one, honey! I suppose anything that is strong and can be cleaned would be adequate. I've never really come across a crappy one.

Well I'm actually thinking of buying something from the DIY centre (hardware store?) that is made for tools - I just want something versatile, strong and portable with compartments in it.

One of the od.net posters suggested this and it's an interesting take on the "train case" (as I'm now told it's called!).

ZÜCA Artist Collection : Artist Collection

Very different to the ones I've been looking at but well worth considering.

The MUA that we use regularly has a stacked pink set that looks like the one in the link below, but it tends to come apart easily (well, become "unstacked", and the trolley part isn't the strongest either.

PINK COMPACT RIVA BELLA BEAUTY 3 PIECE MAKEUP TROLLEY on eBay, also, Cases Bags, Make-Up Cosmetics, Health Beauty (end time 17-May-09 18:01:45 BST)

I have a Zuca bag, and altho its nice, (I use it for toting around my ice skating cr*p)...its fairly heavy.

Maybe you should head on over to the hardware store or maybe look at one of those fishing cases, which would be much lighter and expandable.....like this, for instance Plano Lg 3-Drawer System Box - Buy Tackle or something similar (what you would find at any of the *-marts).

Re: MAkeup case / stacked trolley thingy

OK, confession time. I love bags and organizing and compartmentalizing... it's probably a disorder. Not long ago, I got obsessed with organizing my makeup, hair stuff, and accessories for shows so I read a bunch of forums and looked at a bunch of options. Here are my conclusions:
first, the best thread ever for ideas: ModelMayhem.com - New Makeup bag and kit organizing

If you want something with wheels, those scrapbook and craft cases are a great size, have a lot of compartments, and are less expensive than ones made for makeup artists. I also found a soft sided tool case on wheels at Target that was perfect if you need something fairly large. I don't like hard cases because they are heavy, hard to pack, and a pain to store.

I ended up with 3 sizes of soft wide mouth tool bags, they have a hard rim around the zipper so they stay open and you can see whats in there. I can use any combo for how much stuff I need to bring to each show. I organize all my crap by categories into clear zippered makeup cases -- like these: ModelMayhem.com - New Makeup bag and kit organizing I found an awesome pencil case that zips shut, but stands up on it's own to hold my brushes (love that). I stuck as much of my shadows and blushes into palettes as I could to save space. A couple of the little makeup bags are permanently ready to go with small amounts of primer and cream and safety pins -- all the things you want to have and not have to remember to pack every time. I bought a large but very thin mirror that folds open into it's own stand. I could go into more detail, but a lot of the ideas I got were from that forum thread. I can carry the tool bags, or pack them in a rolly suit case. Can you tell I'm happy with how everything ended up? ..l;,

Oh, I can usually fit a very generous makeup kit (with lots of shadow, etc choices), all my hair accessories and pins (I wear a lot of hair doo dad clips and a dressed up headband), and jewelry (including tribal stuff) into 2 small tool bags, I think one is 12" long and the other is 14". If I am a paring down and know exactly what stuff I am going to wear, I can fit it all into the 12" one.

I guess it depends on how much BIG stuff (hairbrushes, hair appliances etc) you want to tote plus how much little stuff as well.

I only bring what I absolutely need. Most of my shows are within a 2-hour drive so I usually do up before I go and touch up once there. I have only had one overnighter in my 5 years of competitions (ice skating) and I still brought only a minimum of stuff.

I have a nice little overnighter/carryon bag that rolls, and it carries a lot of stuff. I toss a lot into little bags (ziploc-type clear bags) and I'm good to go.
