need goddess inspired costume ideas from existing wardrobe a plus
Craig Ellenwood, the one and only .. Craig Ellenwood Photography
is asking me to take a helicopter ride to the top of a ridge here in Oahu and do some goddess inspired photos
NOT bellydance, more goddess..think long drapey fabric, ok don't beat me up but possibly partial 'conservatively' done backless/partial topless pics
so i don't want a hint of bellydance in it
instead lots of veils, hair flowers, ethereal fabric..would you guys suggest just wrapping and tyeing a bunch of silk stuff?
one of our inspirations is Jia Lu (many of you know my adoration of her work)
Jia Lu Home Page
ideas?

Are you going for a particularly emblematic feeling, or just general "goddess?"
Of course peacock feathers would be pretty, and would probably play off the scenery really nicely. You could do a really volcanic color for your silk, so your photographer could do something wonderful with the textures of you, silk, and rough lava rock. The first thing that popped into my mind was for you to dye something green in a scale-like pattern, and tie it around your hips for a Minoan snake-priestess vibe, but I don't know how you feel about going full boob;)
I keep thinking a nice big, stone bowl for posing with that you can pour water out of, or fill with natural stuff, but I'm sure your photographer already thought of props.
For your hair, why not stick several hairsticks through at regular intervals to make a "crown?" That needn't look tribal at all, depending on ornamentation, and as long as they're not actually holding your hair up, you could change them out during the shoot.

Have you got something drapey other than cloth like Cindy's pearls in this pic? I like how the strings of beads look like the folds of fabric--maybe a sparse fresh leaf garland?

Two more pics, and then I'll leave you alone;) The braided circlet of hair is a nice, unfussy idea, and probably won't look dated, since they've been doing that...well, forever. And the flowers I just thought looked cool framing her face that way. Girl on the right. Our right. With the yellow.

you could go to delilah's website and troll for photos. she's done just about every goddess in the book. granted they'll be more bellydancey, but for ideas: Belly Dancing with Delilah: Beautiful Images, Belly Dance Videos, DVD's, Costume, Supplies, Articles, Music, Bellydance Information and Fun!

I was trying to find you a beautiful picture with fishing nets, because that could be gorgeous, but all I keep getting is a forties girl posed statically in front of one, or Anna Kournikova and her tennis net. Also, I saw several with the long strings of pearls again, but running down the model's nude back as she looked over her shoulder. Will hunt down..

Take a look at some of the paintings here:
The Goddess Art of Jonathon Earl Bowser
Lots of goddesses in drapey gowns and clothes.

I like how this model is wearing only her jewelry. If you have some silk tied around your waist, and say, wanted to partially cover your breasts, it might be pretty with a crapload of bracelets on. Also henna--if that's far away enough from belly dance for you (you could get someone to do polynesian designs)--would be a striking visual texture in a semi-nude portrait.

My first goddess thought was all woodland-y, but ding! I realized you were doing a volcano shoot so who better than Pele? Strong like the force of an eruption but sinuous like a lava flow. These are my favorite images of the ones I found on a Google search.

His work is beautiful and you could always use just silk pinned or belted on and arranged artfully to drape as some of the gowns in the painting do.
Cant wait to see the photos!
