Unhappy Help moms! I still look pregnant. :(

Hey ladies. Why did I have my baby and only lose what he weighed and only two inches off of my waist. I still look like I am 8 months pregnant. ..cr.: Where the hell did the placent weight and amniotic fluid weight go? Did my body just go ahead and absorb it? My waist is bigger than my bust and none of my clothes look good anymore. I wear two sizes bigger on the bottom than the top. Totally, depressing. People use to make comments when I was pregnant and now they look at me and are probably thinking I am still pregnant.

Yet two weeks haven't gone by. With my last two I lost at least 30 lbs. right after and gained way more than what I gained with this one. But, I did weigh more than with my previous and I am over 30. ,m:: Which, means I have to lose that weight on top of this. I had a c-section so there is no way I can even do anything strenuous. My incision is infected so they just up'd my recovery time for two more weeks. That means 8 weeks without doing anything that will definitely get the pounds off. I just got the go ahead that I can walk as long as I don't push the stroller, or walk up hills.

My diet is great, because I was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes with this pregnancy. I wasn't put on medications, because I did great with controlling it with my diet. I have been sticking with this diet, so I don't get Diabetes in the future, since now I am at risk times 4: Runs in the family, extremely overweight, Samoan descent, and the Gestational Diabetes. I am also breastfeeding.

Is there anyone out there that has experienced this? Any tips and any suggestions?

One of the not so delightful things about having babies is the physical aftermath. Don't worry about it hon, your tummy will pull back in. I looked quite pregnant after both my kids; the first one was traditional and the second was a crash C. I honestly don't remember how long it took for my tummy to pull back in though in a few weeks you will feel stronger and more svelte. Don't sweat it---you just grew and birthed a human being! Congratulations!

Hello New Mummy :) I know how you feel! I had gestational diabetes as well during my pregnancy and I am 30 years old and I still have my tummy :( I wouldnt focus too much on being back to your old self so soon. Enjoy your new Baby and things will bounce back for you. Post baby bodies are hard to get back in shape-the boobs, the hips and the waist. Ive just accepted that my shape has changed and I am older now so metabolism and the ability to "bounce back" has slowed down :(

Focus on getting yourself recovered from your c section as well. You need to be healthy and give your body time to recover before the weight loss can happen-plus your breastfeeding so that will help :)

Dont lose heart-Im sure you are beautiful!!!!!!!!!

Just remember - 9 months up, and 9 months down. It takes a while. Be gentle with yourself - you've just created another human being!

Damn those celebrities. You do realise they go out three weeks after the birth having had a tummy tuck at the same time as the c-section and wearing a hardcore corset, right? Bodies seldom ping back instantly - OK, I've known the odd woman who has bounced back freakishly, but they are not normal. And you just got your abs sliced in two. Give it some time!

Your body will take at least nine months to get back to where it was, and it won't ever be exactly the same. Don't worry - you just did something awesome, you can be proud of yourself!

Yes, I am totally over reacting, probably in part of the media.

    Thanks ladies for your advice.

Don't forget to do the tummy rubbing to get your uterus (?) back in place. They kept at me when I was in the hospital after delivering.

No one ever told me about the "bleeding like a stuck pig" for a few weeks either. It'll all get better over time, trust us.

Congrats! Welcome to the world of the sleepless.

Wht everyone has said, congratulations on creating a new life! Enjoy the new baby and give yourself some time.

Are you breastfeeding? That really helped me shed pounds after my second child was born, I was so disheartened that I still looked pregnant afterwards, but nursing and eating healthy did work eventually.

Hell...I still looked pregnant until my son was about 2 years old. I still get asked if I'm pregnant on ocassion, but at least now they assume I'm only 3 months pregnant versus 8 months.

Like everyone else said, you just gotta give it time. Especially since you mentioned that your incision is infected. Don't even attempt anything until that heals up! Ouch!

Don't let those celebrity mommies with the incredible bodies 3 weeks after giving birth get you all worried with your own body not bouncing back as quickly. The media plants these seeds of suggestion as to how we are supposed to look after giving birth that are totally unrealistic and we wind up beating ourselves up because we can't possibly keep up with it. I'd look like them too if I had a personal trainer, personal chef, nutritionist, and an army of nannies helping me on a daily basis! Ha! And when I win the lotto I will look like that cause those people are the first ones I'm gonna hire. Ok, so I lie...first person I'm going to put on my staff is a personal masseuse to be at my beck and call. But right after that comes the army of people to make me look good the natural way! And the nanny. Definitely the nanny. Oh yes.

i'm not a mom yet, but I did hear alot of good things about breast feeding helping to shed pounds and how your body burns a lot of calories producing it. sounds like your doing that already which is wonderful! Great for you and of course your little bundle of joy!

Congratulations on bringing you're little one into the world!

    Thanks ladies.

    Very reassuring posts.

After my 8 week appointment I hope to get back into dancing, so I am sure that will help me out as well. I will be so stiff! lol...

It has worked for me before and it will work again.

I promise I will take things slow. Just like I told my doctor I would.

Just glad I haven't gotten the baby blues over it. Just frustrated that everytime I put something on it just doesn't look right. I did myself a favor a purchased some tops in my new "mommy" size, so I don't have to continue wearing Maternity clothes. Although, I don't mind wearing the pants, it isn't like anyone will notice. I made some blouses for myself, but with my waist they don't look right on me as of yet.

Geez they need a forum in here for us moms, if there is ever a request on the request line.

Congrats on your new bundle. My suggestion to you is forget about weight loss/fitness goals right now and let your body recover, especially if you have an infection. Breastfeeding is good and requires a healthy diet, lots of H2O - all good for blasting that extra weight. Once your Doc says you're good to go you can kick butt with some intense cardio workouts and maybe some yoga or pilates for toning. Good luck!!

This is so true. My son is 18 now and I remember two weeks after birth and thinking my jeans would go on and they would not go up over my thighs. I almost fainted. You will loose the weight and most likely be smaller. After 8 mos. I had 10 pounds left so I did weight watchers and it disappeared. Diet and exercise help but right now you need to enjoy your new mom status and don't worry about the aftermath. Things change after you have a baby but then things change again when you reach your 40's. A woman's life is always interesting.

I bought a BOB stroller with the fixings. Once, I am cleared I will be walking up this big Holy Cross Hill. Then around the back road to my home. I haven't done this in so long so it should kick my bootay! I will remember to squeeze my bumb. lol... I need to try this pilates thing, I will have to look for some DVD's on Amazon.com

lol, I won't even attempt that! I know they won't fit. When I didn't know I was pregnant they were getting tight. I have the pictures to prove it. ..l;,

About the 40's thing, my mother said she loved it! ..l;,

Once again, thanks ladies you don't know how better you made me feel. I have friends that popped right back, including my mother who is very petite (I didn't end up with that gene, ended up with my father's Polynesian gene) and some that don't have any children. So I really can't discuss it with them.

i didn't really do much until the locha stopped and then it was great to take short walks with the baby..i wore him in a maya sling or moby wrap. Start SLOW and just enjoy being out but don't push yourself...you need all the energy for the little one. Make sure to take naps when your little one does.

That is a good idea, since every time I do some sort of activity. Like sorting laundry or picking up, my locha comes back. Home Health nurse says it will happen, but to take it easy. ..c::

nurse Jes says you must rest and let your body recover from the c-sect..as common as they are nowadays it IS a surgery and you dont want to cause any stress on the incision site or worse, get an infection.

BOY do i know this is hard but don't worry about your weight and size right now, just get enough sleep and get thru your c-sect recovery PLEASE follow doc's instructions. you don't want more problems that could slow your recovery even more. stay hydrated and take it easy.

are you breastfeeding? that will help shrink down the uterus because all of those lovely hormones that make us crazy will also shrink the uterus but with c-sect many docs say the uterus does not shrink down as quickly esp after repeated c-sect.

this is a bad time to diet, if breastfeeding you need more calories (the right kind). drinking water will help a lot. it takes a while for the tummy to shrink back down, as you know your doc will be checking your incision site and the uterus will be shrinking down over the next few weeks (that's why i asked about breastfeeding as this helps shrink it quicker)

i understand your desire to get back to normal. mine is 19 months and i still have a loose skin tummy and after all this time have finally started to exercise regularly again..it took THAT LONG cuz the bugger didnt sleep and it caused problems since we had to work. but this is your time to be frumpy and let it all hang and just get enough rest, let your body heal, sleep when baby sleeps..you know all that stuff we ignore hehe

    try to be patient!!! xxoo

Re: Help moms! I still look pregnant. :(

I agree with everyone! I have four children, ranging in ages from 15 yrs to 18 months, and each time it took a bit longer to get my body back, and I'm still not quite back to normal from the last. I was told it can take two years for a woman's body to get back to somewhat-normal after a pregnancy!

With my first I had a c-section and it took longer to get around but I dropped the weight quickly because I was much too young. The second it took about two months. The third and fourth were back to back pregnancies, only nine months apart so my kids are 18 months apart in age, and I didn't loose much weight in between, just the actual baby's weight. I'm now 30 and like I said before, it's taken this long to get back some normalcy with my body. But it will happen, especially if you slowly get back into dancing when your dr gives you the go ahead. Bellydancing is probably the best thing you can do because it uses all the right muscles to help with the loose lower ab area that stretches so much during pregnancy! Just be patient and enjoy your time with your little one :)

Don't worry Jess, this diet is so I won't get diabetes in the future, it is by my Nutritionist at Endocrinology. Just like when I was pregnant with the Gestational Diabetes, I had to go by this same diet. It consists of six smalls meals a day, so it is very spread out and I am so use to it already. So my doctor is totally aware.

Thanks again ladies. I actually felt smaller today, but I still measured the same. Duh! Why did I do that.

Oh Jess! I had no clue about the repeat c-section taking longer. No wonder. And I also found out that you get infections faster as well. Thank goodness my wound didn't open up.

    Hi Sabena,

My daughters are 9 and 12, but I still vividly remember how frustrated I was with my body after they were born...mostly because I wanted my body back quickly so it was SO frustrating not to be able to move in any way that would work the parts that needed working.

Plus, I'd feel so guilty when I'd whine about it and people would tell me to be thankful for having a healthy baby and put it in perspective. Damn it, being frustrated at the weight doesn't mean you appreciate the baby less--so don't beat yourself about it

    What was helpful:
A very tight girdle, worn 24 hours--a friend told me it was like the uterus massage, and it did seem to make things pull in faster.

Just wanted to let you know you're not alone!
    Laura

Sabena! Sweetie, don't be so hard on yourself. You did a fantastic job creating a life AND you are recovering from surgery.
It IS harder as we are older. Subsequent pregnancies also take more work. Be patient with yourself and give it time.
What takes 9 months to go out, takes 9 months to go back...and some of us are simply changed - stretch marks, different hips, different weight distribution.
Nursing is the best thing you can do to take care of yourself and your baby. Be kind to yourself.

Well, I must say after all the fluids from all the IV fluids and what not that were in my body are almost all gone. I have been drinking a ton of fluids due to the breastfeeding and oh my the night sweats. Now I have to go to the laundry mat to wash all my pillows!

My ankles and feet are back. I see ankle bones... I feel like my abdomen is getting smaller, but I dare to weigh myself.

Slowly but surely things are getting better. I thought I was going to have cankles for much longer. I was getting sick of wearing the only two pairs of shoes that fit me.

Re: Help moms! I still look pregnant. :(

I remember getting horribly swollen after I had my first baby. I'd been on IV meds and It was a few weeks before the effects from all that finally got clear of my body. I didn't ever get back to my regular size until almost a year after I'd had the baby. Took a while for my hips to shrink back down and my body likes to hang on to the last 10-15 lbs while I'm breastfeeding. I think most of that was in my boobs! lol.

Take really good care of yourself and the baby and maybe find a cute outfit that fits you and you feel great in even though you don't look exactly how you want. I was so sick of my maternity clothes and nothing of my regular stuff fit. So I went out and got a couple of "in between" outfits.

    ((hugs))

    I hear ya cymbeline...

I think my boobs have to do with some of it. I did go from a 38D to a 44D. Now I have to wear plus size tops. I did buy a few from JCPenney. Boy, plus size clothes are expensive , so luckily the spring items are going on sale now.

I did make a few blouses which I posted on the What You Are Working on Thread in April. Since, I kind of knew the bra size wasn't going down anytime soon. ..l;,

Oh, oh, oh, don't do that (I've done it myself, and it's never pretty)! Give yourself the time and space to heal and recover! I'm 31 and just 9 months post-partum now, and while things are still shrinking I've not lost all the weight I want to yet. It's so, so hard to be patient, but please don't beat yourself up - you'll get there!

And you're right - I would love to see a mom's forum on bhuz.
