"What are you working on?" May, 2009

I have no pics to post yet but I love these threads so I am just going for it and starting it up for this month. Hope I'm not breaking any rules! ..g.:
    I love seeing everyone's projects!
Right now I am doing a sparkly animal print mesh beledi dress and a holographic zebra cossie.
What is everyone else working on?

I'm making a costume for a friend as a wedding present. The wedding is Victoria Day weekend so I've got to hussle!. I'll only have time to make a bedlah with accessories. It is silver with turquoise and I'm making appliques. Hope she likes it!

I'm so glad you started this for May. I couldn't resist some lime green stretch satin and have actually started cutting.

Remember the pink/silver project for the Pink Ribbon Breast Cancer fund?

Now here is the finish result:

The event is tomorrow evening, I'll also be wearing my brand new 3/4 wig witch I love (I got it on in the picture).

I also have to put a small piece of elastic in the inside top to each gauntlet, they are pulling down a little when I dance with them.

    Ciao!

Re: "What are you working on?" May, 2009

It's 5:38AM. I am up early because I need to get on a train and go to Nartita airport this morning to pick up a costume from a fellow Bhuzzer who works in the airline industry and felw in late last night leaves late this morning. There is a chance I will have to remake the skirt of the costume (an eman) due to the fabric being worn out after muyltiple owners...so that's job one.

Job two is starting on the MIsguided Jellyfish when she comes.
Buggirl's Increasingly Strange Tokyo Tales... - Project: Misguided Jellyfish.

I am figuring out how many bra cups to order from Sugar petals, looks like an order of 5 or so, for upcoming projects including:
    Cave girl Bedlah for Eshe,
Finishing work on a coin set for friend Henna for when she comes back tot Japan.
    various projects for myself.
I have a half finished costume right now because I can't figure if I like the color on me...

I have embarked upon converting an old lehnga choli into a bedlah. This is the before. I'll post some pics of the after. I just started taking it apart today. I am using the sleeves to cover the bra cups.

The belt is going to be kinda tricky as it will be made from the neckline. The skirt of it is double-layered. Since the outer layer is missing beads and has a few stains, the inner layer will be taken out and made into a matching skirt, as both the skirt and the lining are made from the same fabric. The part of the outer skirt that's not stained will most likely be made into arm costuming.

The cap sleeves are perfert for covering a bra, as the motif on each shoulder goes perfectly over apex of the bra cups, the border on the edge of the sleeves goes perfectly along the top edge of the bra cup and the curve for the shoulder seam goes nicely along the curved bottom of the cups.

I pinned a sleeve to a bra so that you all can see my vision. ..g.:

I'm going to have to cut more fabric from the lehnga to cover the bottom half of the bra cup and the back straps. I plan to use some silver fringe and I may put some silver trim at the hem of the skirt.

    All these costumes look great!!

I have been working on a bra belt set that would match all my skirts. The flat work is finally almost finished on the belt, Hoping to start the top soon! Haven't decided on fringe yet. Any suggestions?

This is my first project in quite some time. Wish I had gone with something a little less ambitous this go around! But I wanted the bling!! So far I'm very happy with the results.

I'm starting to make my own version of the rhinestone-only costume I sold right now. It was not fitting very well (bra to big) and the colour was not perfect for my skin tone.
So I want to make one -with blood-red velvet (like the skirt I have worn to the one I sold) and -rhinestones (Swarovski) settings in gold, stones cristall AB.

When I saw your post selling the rhinestone costume I thought how incredible it would be done in red and gold. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

After a workshop today I bought fabric I thought I might use for the EMan fix-up...but it turned out to be too dark for the effect I want...but I made the skirt anyway, to test the pattern I'd drafted and to have as a skirt for my bedlah...I finished it in hours and will wear it tomorrow in a show with my conversion-bedlah.

Blurry shot, there will be photographers tomorrow.

This month is going to be busy with work, my mom visiting from out of state, my husband coming home for a weekend (he works out of state) and dance performances/rehearsals. I'm also attending my first workshop so that will be fun.

I'm still working on the beaded fringe for my peacock costume. I've got close to 30" done - I figure I'll need about 48" total. I'm hoping to finish it up in the next week and start working on the belt (or bra - haven't decided which I want to tackle first).

I have 2 circle skirts hanging to stretch that will need to be leveled and hemmed this month.

And just bought fabric this weekend for 3 pairs of harem pants - doubt I'll get those done this month though.

Wow. That pink set sure shows how much a skirt classes up a costume. Just beautiful!

Here's what I've done so far this month...
The white thing is a set of Regency stays for the upcoming re-enactment season. They fit perfectly, and so does the Regency dress.

Unfortunately, the pants were too long, and the dress too snug. Neither pattern had finished garment or sizing measurements, so I guessed. Goes to show I should have measured the pattern pieces before cutting. The latter two are on the swap, but thankfully I had enough of that beautiful black and gold lace to make myself another dress. It's nearly finished.

Re: "What are you working on?" May, 2009

that's an awesome skirt ozma. i completely forgot u r reworking the eman u just got. that fabric is so fun! i too, would like to know how to get a skirt like that
the skirt that i made i didn't use any pattern. hopefully my pics will come in soon to show the skirt i made but i basically just draped the fabric around me, made marks where i need to cut, left some space for when i sewed it and voila! i was really proud of it because i managed to get clean holes on the left side of the slit to run a ribbon through to make the skirt look 'laced' up.

i'm going to try and figure out what i need to do to make some cool pants for a sword routine i want to create. i can't decide if i want 'bellbottom' pants or these harem pants that have the poofy thing towards the knee (no idea what those r called but i have the pattern for them). i have been avoiding my sewing machine like the plague. it just doesn't wanna cooperate with me so i'm scared i'll have to resort back to hand sewing which last time took me like 3-4 hours to make that skirt ..c::

I have a picture of the pattern I made here:

I think I need to cut it even more on the bias to get a really drappy effect, btu I didn't have enough fabric to do that. I only bought 1.5 meters and that was cutting it super close.

I'm not sure how to do an RSS feed if you have another sort of blog, you'll have to check your own blog-home if you have one. If you're on LJ it's just a matter of "friending me" I think.

I'm still working on my leopard bedlah, a troupe order of 10 straight skirt sets and this is another project. It's for fellow bhuzer MaraNajla. I wish the pictures would show how pretty it is, but they really don't. The bra and skirt are basically done except for the hem on the skirt. I still need to make the accessories (wrist and bicep cuffs, headband and a one-shoulder top). I made the chain swags on the bra and skirt detachable. That way it'll be easier to wash and also make the costume more versatile. She can wear just a simple hip scarf over the skirt instead of wearing the swag. Also, I'm making a seperate one-shoulder top that she can wear on top of the bra (or on top of her own bra).

The sequins are so cute. They're square multi-colored with a black animal print on them.
