    grooming down under

ok so we've reached the point of being able to discuss just about anything here so...

women, um..how do you go about deciding what sort of style to sport down under? or um..on your carpet? we all have our preferences but are there salons that will do brazilians and other 'styles'

and what do you say when you go in? i need poon-tang styling??

if you get waxed how long before it um, grows back. cuz shaving sucks..stubble itches and when you live in bikini land , crotch scratching is not an option

Men's beard trimmers are a nice, low-cost compromise between uncontrolled growth and waxing/shaving.

    Re: grooming down under

I'm terrified of waxing, because I heard a horror story about some girl whose cooter got stuck shut and had to go to the E.R. to get her "situation" restored to normal ..c::.w.:

That being said, I like a little landing strip, if you will. I tried to take it ALL off once, but with my slim, sorta boyish figure, it just looked a little - uhh, illegal. I think it all depends on your build and your preferences. Any capable cooter groomer could probably point you in the direction of a flattering 'do.

Didn't somebody recently post a comprehensive illustrated guide to beaver hairstyles recently? Maybe that will help you make your decision!

If you're not sure how much to do, for your first time, wear your swimsuit and just have them remove the part that sticks out past your swimsuit line. If you survive the pain and want more done, you can have them take off a littlemore and then a little more and stop when youve had enough.

when you go back for a rewax a few weeks later it doesn't hurt anywhere close to as bad as the first time.

One of the benefits of menopause (and there aren't many!) is that you no longer need to worry about things like this. Plus leg and pit shaving is a thing of the past.

Another plus for being older if I ever wear a bathing suit I wear shorts so I don't have to worry about shaving because I don't care bout this anymore never really did.

There aren't many people that are priveledged enough to see my parts and since that person is very blind w/o glasses I always look younger and good in his eyes.

i tried waxing once. it didn't go so well. the waxer seemed more uncomfortable (oddly enough) than me! i got a horrible rash, like razor burn that lasted for weeks. since then, i've stuck the usual razor. shave with the grain, not against, use a new super sharp razor, no need to use shaving cream. works for me, and i get minimal to no rashy-ness. if its really bad, i'll use my husbands beard trimmer first. ..l;,

I am going to go with the shaving every few days crowd here. I have had too many issues with being burned by waxers that I am not interested in having it done around my pubic area. I do know someone who is talking about having much of her pubic hair lasered away. That is a step which is just a little over board in my mind.

Why must we choose one style? Hair grows back for a reason. So that we can play games with our personal topiary!

I think the key is going to someone that has done it for several years. Lots of people get trained in just a few weeks. I wouldn't recommend them unless you've been getting waxed for a long time. Even then, use extreme caution. The one lady I trust has been doing this for 20+ years.

And let me add: it shouldn't take *anyone* longer than 30 minutes (for waxing). If it does, DO NOT go to them! My gal is in and out in 15min, sometimes 10.

The wearing the bikini to the "groomers'' is a good idea, for me, i do the grooming at home with the basic tools...scissors, shaving cream and new razors...I agree with Satan not so sure about the waxing...

    Re: grooming down under

Remington makes a bikini trimmer which has been my saving (shaving?) grace.

I tried the regular razor thing and got ingrowns like crazy. I tried the wax thing (at home, no way I'm letting a stranger handle things, which I have no clue how sanitary they are, near that delicate area.)

Looking back, the wax episode seems almost like a comedy hour now, although it was more like an epic drama at the time it happened. Long story short, my crotch got glued shut with the wax and I thought that a warm bath might help... I ended up my crotch glued to the bottom of the bathtub instead, a bruise roughly the size of New-Brunswick on one side from yanking on the cloth strip, wondering why I never thought of installing a phone in the bathroom before. (Shows how desperate I was bc really, who would you call in a case like this? hehehe... .w.:) I can't recommend the wax, or at least not by an inexperienced or un-trustable person.

However, I got the recipes down pat for a home made ingrown care solution: dissolve four uncoated aspirins in 1/4 or 1/2 cup of water and stir in one teaspoon glycerin. Shake and keep in a closed bottle. Apply with a cotton ball after shaving/waxing/whatever and every other day until the hair has made it to the surface of the skin. (salicylic acid is a topical anti-inflammatory and chemical exfoliant. Obviously, do not use if you are allergic to aspirin.)

    HTH some,

    Kem

Shaver here. Never tried a bikini wax. Don't you have to wait for it to grow out enough when it comes time to re wax? So you have to be hairy anyway right?

How long does a bikini wax last? I'd be tempted to try one. What's an average cost?

    Re: grooming down under

    LOL, Keminitri, your waxing story!

I'm a regular bikini waxer. On my skin, it lasts much longer than shaving and is much smoother. Not much of a problem with in-growns. I've been getting it done at the same salon with the same person for a while now, so I'm comfortable with the cleanliness/experience.

You do have to wait for it to grow back out, but it doesn't have to be fully grown out for it to be waxable again, if that makes sense. More like some sparse stubble, as long as the hair that is there is long enough for the wax to catch it.

Also, as I've been waxing regularly for a few years now, the hair has gotten more sparse and is finer.

I'm not against body hair, but if I let myself go au naturale, I would be pretty hairy.

Usually, I leave a bit on top, taking off the sides and some from the ahem, lip area.
