Made myself a veil poi...for less than $3. Yay! :o)
OK, It was a crazy ideal at first, but since I didn't have much to loose, the gelly toy as a similar weight as the commercial poi. So I give it a try and it works!
1. A nylon neck strap I.D. holder
2. A toy gelly critter, lady bug from the dollar store ($1). I cut the anthenas and legs.
3. A little piece of leftover strech gold lame.
4. An half hour of nothing else to do!
I could have use the sewing machine but I was to lazy to get it out.
And VOILÀ!
Crazy Qamar!

I'm way too lazy to take pictures, but I made a set too, Qamar! I got different fixings from the jewelry making market in Seoul, and made them look pretty. But I designed mine to use with a smaller strip of silk...more of a scarf than a veil. Yours look awesome and very durable!

Well I feel like an idiot, but how did you attach the veil? Cause now I'm totally gonna copy this.

Hello Sonja, usualy you attach one corner of the veil at the bottom of the cord (on top of the ball) with a small knot. But since the nylon I.D. holder that I used had a small ring, I tied the veil onto it.
The jelly bug is a toy about 2 inches diamater, it's made of a soft gel rubber, very moochy and goowy (not sure, but I think the inside of the beatle contain a liquid gel)... So when praticing with the poi, it's hurts less when you it yourself with it!
But you can also use a small amount of rice ou quinoa in the tip of an old nylon stocking, and tie it with a knot.
Here is the pic of a commercialized vei poi (around $30 a pair):
Good luck with you project.

Francky, I'm a beginner at veil poi, but so far I try it at home, the living room is large but we have a ceiling fan and light and I don't want to hit it! But it's rather easy to work it.
So I'll bring to the dance studio and pratice a little bit more. I will also register to a veil poi workshop in Montreal next June, I'm really looking forward to it! ,r:;
So far I didn't hit my face, but only my thighs and/or knees a couple of times.
Batteries! OUCH! :Aohmy: Be careful dear!
The weight doesn't have to be very heavy, if you work with a silk veil, it's rather light, so a small soft toy ball, or a little bag of grains, rice or other will do too.

That's cool! There was a veil poi workshop last weekend but unfortunatly I couldn't afford it cause we need a new garage door.

But I'll pratice more and/or maybe buy a good training DVD about it!
Have fun with your project.

this is extremely good timing on your part because a friend TODAY asked me where she could get some inexpensive veil poi's for her daughters birthday party. I said, hey, I'll just make some! Not ever even having seen some in real life. I figured it couldn't be too hard, so now I know exactly how! Thank you Qamar! you have saved my butt!
