    Spin off- Supplements?

After reading the yoga body thread, I am curious what supplements bhuzzers take. Not for any specific purpose, like weight loss, or flexibility, just for general health. I currently take Omega 3, 6, and 9's but thats about it. Does anyone take anything else daily and have you found it to improve your general health?

I take vitamin C, a B complex, iron a few times per week and glutamine when my practice gets really intense. I'm currently out of calcium and multi-vitamin, but those 2 are probably the most important ones.

No. I've gone back and forth on taking vitamins/supplements on a daily basis, and consuming none. I find that a balanced, whole/real food diet does the trick. I found vitamin supplements pretty harsh on my stomach, too.

I've been reading Michael Pollan's "In Defense of Food" and highly agree with his "Eater's Manifesto": Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.

We're so focused on (and lead to believe in the power of) isolated nutrients that we forget about the benefits of eating something in its whole form and that hasn't been processed/prodded/packaged/marketed/analyzed/etc.

    I agree with eating well/balanced.
I try not to eat packaged products, except frozen vegetables...etc
but in general I eat lots of green, drink OJ regularly (not from concentrate), I dont usually eat or drink processed/pasteurized/concentrate products
I take wheat grass juice when I start feeling tired/getting cold
I take Bromelain for digestion and inflammation;Biotin for skin/hair/nails;Joint support herbal product for my joints;need also Digestion pill like Digest All to support and ease my digestion
not regularly I take but I heard calcium helps with diet

I try to eat a well balanced diet. But I also take a sports multi, Calcium, triple flex, flax seed and Bayer aspirin for cholesterol. I also add Emergen-C to my water when I work out.

First of all, well-balanced diets are great, but you can't get all of the nutrients you need from a well-balanced diet!!! Especially folic acid! I take a multi every day.

Folic Acid for the Prevention of Neural Tube Defects: Recommendation Statement
Folic Acid for the Prevention of Infant Neural Tube Defects: U.S. Preventive Services Task Force Recommendation -- 150 (9): I-50 -- Annals of Internal Medicine

"All women capable of pregnancy should take a daily vitamin supplement that contains 0.4 to 0.8 mg (400 to 800 µg) of folic acid.

Many foods are now fortified with folic acid. It is not known whether women can get enough folic acid to prevent neural tube defects simply by eating folic acid–fortified food."

Just remember that it says "capable of pregnancy" not PLANNING a pregnancy. 50% of pregnancies are unplanned.
