    Bathing suit time

I tragically have to get a new swim suit. I sadly grew out of my bikini. I now have to wear a one piece or tankini.

Anyway, what are some best bets for swim suits for the full-figured lady. I am digging Newport News, but not sure how they will fit the bust.

I like the idea of being able to get cup size. I also am trying to stay away from halters since there seems to be neck/back issues associated with wearing them.

Ugh, this is gonna suck. ..cr.:

Lands End has a pretty large selection of swim separates on their web site. Their regular sizes go up to 18 and they have some tops in d and dd sizes. Lands' End | Swimwear, Outerwear, Casual Clothing and more

    Re: Bathing suit time

I've had the same swimsuit for years (I think I got it around 1999 or 2000) because I can't find another one like it and so I refuse to give it up.

Luckily I don't swim much so it's managed not to fall apart. It's a bikini, but the bottoms are like shorts. It gives me complete butt coverage, a fair amount of thigh coverage, and the material is clingy but not so tight that there's overflow out the bottoms of the legs.

I don't like the look or looseness of board shorts, and boyshort bottoms are wayyyyyy to short. The closest I've been able to find is this Enhancer triangle top, short bottom, but if you look at the back view it's still way too short. My current suit bottoms come down to mid-thigh, about halfway to where a biking short would be. If I could find a two piece with a similar bottom I'd snap it up in a heartbeat.

This may not be your style but there are some damn sexy one piece bathing suits found at Pin up girl clothing I'll openly admit to being a retro chick, and the quality of the stuff they sell is great!

Do you have Marshalls stores in your area? I think they are like an upscale TJ Maxx. Anyway they have wonderful swim suit sales. I bought a fabulous one piece suit for the more goddess like figure. Leopard with metallic flecks. Strap options. Built-in shapewear with floating underwire that holds you nice and tight and the actual suit fabric is ruched and flattering. I think I got it for well under $50 last summer. I sawsimilar suits and tankinis recently for even less.

Oooh almost forgot. Sams Club often has Speedo tankinis.

I found a cute tankini at Old Navy. It's got a bandeau style top and boyshorts. It looks very 40's pin-up. Note- this is the only tankini top I saw there that had any bust support, though.

They have some other colors available mostly pinks and some blues. But pale skin with those colors is the retro look! I swear some girls I know powder their skin for a more "vampire" look.

Newport News can work, but I've been happiest with Land's End or random department-store suits. For Newport News I order several sizes and just send back what doesn't fit.

I also want to take this opportunity to ***** about the fixed straps on bathing suits. They used to have adjustable straps all the time, now I haven't seen adjustable straps on a one-piece in forever. Not all women have the same shoulder-to-boob length!,m::

I got a purple bathing suit this year of all places target. I do the tankini. They fit great too. I also like old navy too(I have 2 from old navy). What I like is you can mix and match to your size. Don't be discouraged I hate shopping for 2 things jeans and bathing suits. I couldn't pass up the purple tankini I saw.

I'm a big fan of victoria secret's swim collection. I've heard great things about the "magicsuit" one pieces in sexy styles that have different levels of "control" that shape your bod and offer great support. also i think most of the styles can be purchased by cup size ( not sure, but i think so) they're a bit pricey though, but i think it's worth the investment.

    They do have nice swimsuits!

If you can't find any on Newport News, because they run out fast. ShapeFX Collection -- Women's Shapewear, Swimwear, Apparel & Spa ShapeFX has the same suits on there site.

    Some others:

figleaves.com - Lingerie, Bras, Briefs, Underwear, Swimwear, Hosiery and More

Women's Clothing including Swimwear, Shoes and Accessories at Spiegel.com

Avenue - Women's Plus Size Clothing Jeans Dresses Lingerie Swimwear in sizes 14-32

If you have the need to try them on, I agree also with the TJMaxx and Marshalls, I always have luck finding a swimsuit at these stores.

figleaves.com - Bras, Panties, Swimsuits, and Full Figure Lingerie sells bathing suits by bra size. not sure how voluptuous of a selection they offer, but they go up to G+.

and hmm. mama needs a new bikini to show off her new tattoo this summer. I'm off to figleaves to see what's new. :)

JCPenney too! I seen some really cute ones there and I have a bathing suit that I actually still have from them. Great quality! You can check their website to see what they have, but I find that not everything in their store is on their website. So if you have the time.

Well, I have to disagree. I returned almost all of my last order to them because I thought for the price they were using really shoddy fabric. The return process was a major pain in the ass - they had one address listed for returns and I returned everything there - turns out it was their store, which had been closed, and so it took me so much effort to track down the package. It took me over a month to get my money refunded.

And the bathing suit that I ordered in my size didn't even fit onto my leg.

    Re: Bathing suit time

Not sure if you're really full-figured or just hour-glass shaped.

I have found actually that string bikinis are very good on those of us with generous hips and breasts, because they are adjustable..and because you can adjust them so that they aren't too tight, they don't cut into the "voluptua" on the hips. :-) I told my friend with big hips about this -she got a string bikini also and loves it.

I wore a bikini when I was 40 lbs overweight, so I never feel embarassed to wear one now no matter what size I am - I got that right out of the way! Back then I figured I'd never be able to lose weight (I was wrong) and why should anything stop me from having as much fun as anyone else?

Awww, that stinks. ,m:: There bathing suits did look fun.

What about their dresses? Did you order any of those? Just wondering... What a shame, they are kind of expensive too. Guess it is just the name. I would rather make my own Retro Dress... If that is the case.

Anyone try Esther William swimsuits? Welcome To The Official Esther Williams Website She carries up to a size 26, which is awesome! Pin Up Girl Clothing carries junior plus I believe.

Yeah we ordered two retro dresses and two bathing suits - we kept one bathing suit.

By the way, whoever posted the Fig Leaves link - I love you - I totally bookmarked them.

Oh Nepenthe, I'm sorry you had problems with that site. I've ordered from them a few times and never had an issue. I do know that their sizing is based on sewing pattern sizing and not the vanity sizing that many retailers currently use. It was a shock to the system for someone who is used to ordering 2s and 4s to order 8s and 10s but I've never had an issue with the quality.

Jessenia recommended them, in another thread. So I have to give her credit for giving me the idea.

Some of their dresses are from other vendors, that you can get somewhere else too. So it really depends.

Thanks for telling me about the pattern sizes, I would never fit into anything they sell. I can hardly find patterns in my size as it is.
