Thread: What do you wear under your split skirts?

I am planning to dance in one of our haflas eventually and I will be wearing a single layer (though very full) double slit skirt (slits on each side, dark color)

I plan on wearing a hip scarf and using the veil to wrap around and tuck in at each side of my hips and sort of pooch them out at the hips to get a wider look there.

Is there any sort of undergarment you recommend? I was thinking flesh colored bike type shorts (are they called spanx?) I don't want to wear harem pants (too uncomfortable and hot) but I don't want there to be any chance of the dreaded raqs beaver (even though of course I would be wearing underwear!)

The hip scarf and veil sort of keep the skirt anchored and also keep the skirt slits from opeing above mid thigh. Suggestions? I could also wear two skirts, so there is a double layer (not sure if lights make skirts see through or not?) but even then I am dealing with the slits. Thanks

2 skirts is a good look but so is just legs

Boy shorts which match your skirt.

or cheerleader briefs if you can find some to match your costume.

Boy shorts, cheerleader shorts. Bathing suit bottoms are great. I have a nice gold one I use a lot.

You can also pin the slits closed slightly to help maintain the long leggy look without the chance that the panels shifting and it becoming a bit more revealing than intended.

For undergarments, I agree with the recommendations for either boy shorts, cheerleader shorts, full coverage bathing suit bottoms, or other costume colored underwear.

I don't recommend nude underwear b/c your audience may not realize you are wearing anything if they catch a fast glimpse...and then they will *think* raqs beaver even though you are fully covered. :)

Yes, I'd go with boyshorts that match your costume. But if you can't find those, definitely don't go with nude boyshorts, or black ones for that matter. Go with something that's very obviously colored boyshorts. It's much better for the audience to think they see a flash of boyshort than think they see a flash of butt! :)

a G string, skirts and belt pinned to it.

...and all of my G strings are "flesh" colored except 1 black one for faiore.1" non role elastic, stretch bathing suit fabric.

I normally wear flesh colored underwear, but I either wear harems or tuck my skirt so I have less leg showing. There are a bunch of ways to tuck circle skirts, I'm sure people on here have some great ones.

egad I never thought of that!

But where does one find colored boy shorts in sage green or this funky purple? I suppose they don't have to be exact right? Are you all just talking about going to the local target or Big 5 (athletic store) and grabbing a pair that is close enough or is there a better place to buy them?

If you wear two skirts, you can wear them so that the slits don't match up, so that the underskirt shows through the slit. This can be especially nice if the underskirt isn't exactly the same colour, i.e. if it is a darker or lighter shade of the same colour, or if it is a complementary colour.

Edited to add that I sometimes just stitch the slit closed far enough so that it can open only to mid-thigh.

Well, I want to show some leg but not beyond mid thigh. I think pinning may be the best option. Thanks Ladies.

I know your initial post said you didn't want to do harem pants because they are uncomfortable and hot. But just as a thought... I have several chiffon split skirts that I wear very light weight, split side harem pants under. With one of my chiffon skirts I actually have a patterned chiffon type material for the harem pants and the two together don't show through but are still very light weight and with the side split you can see my leg from about mid-thigh down. Just thought I'd throw that out there... :)
