Help with straps...ugh! PLEASE...advice anyone?
I have a costume with long enough straps to criss cross in the back - would love to try this to alleviate any neck strain of halter + big cleavage.
problem is now, the criss cross hikes up the back, boobs get no lift and there is gaping under the arms. my first guess would be that the bra band needs tightening. just thought I would post here in case anyone has some good fixes. Also, how do you get in the damn thing without tying yourself into a pretzle?
Thanks in advance for any nuggets of wisdom!

Do you have pics you can post? Seems to me the straps need to be either sewn closer together on the rib band or further apart - but can't tell without looking.
What I have done in this case, on a costume that had little straps, was make the halter and then sew the clear bra straps connecting from the neck band in the back to the rib strap. This took off some of the pressure of the halter style straps.
Just slip it over your head and arms, like a shirt, and then fasten the hooks.

I would try putting it on and having someone safety pin it tighter to see if tightening the bra band helps. As for getting in and out of it, I would detach the bra straps from the cups and put hooks there instead of having them sewn in. That's what I do with my halters (on one side only) and it makes getting into them easier when you can see where you're trying to hook it together.

Tighten bra band. Put hooks and eyes in at the front of the bra where the straps connect.

Best I can do. If you get the heavy one's which lock, you shouldn;t have any problems.
Can't remember if I learned that from Kina or Danelle. . .

my method:
1. adjust back band as tight as possible. should stay up on own like a strapless
2. attach straps at front of cups at point of max lift
3. sew other end of the strap to the same side of the bra, but closer to the end of the back strap piece. the closer to the end its sewn, the more x you will have.
4. i use velcro to tame back strap overlap behind the industrial hook
6. you just put it on like a regular bra

I like to sew an elastic into my bras, with a string casing, just like you often see for the top of a skirt, so they hug my body.
The straps making the bra ride up in the back might mean the bra isn't substantial or sturdy enough to keep it's shape. In which case re-enforcement might be in order.
I also like the idea of making a halter, then sewing straps from the halter down to the back to relieve the pressure from the neck.
good luck
