    Copper "coins"

I tried spray-painting those cheapy coins (I got at wal-mart, on a cloth ribbon) to a copper color (Krylon) I bought at Hobby Lobby. The color was great, but no shine at all: Very Sad Face. It was matte. ,f::

So I asked some folks at an art store, and they sold me spray varnish. There is more shine now. I like the cheap coins because they are light-weight. I'm not getting quite the shine I want, though.

Any thoughts? Am I too picky? LOL ..c::

Those coins are pretty cheap-looking even after I got them colored right. ARE they too cheapy for a nice costume? Maybe I should use them on a different project ... oh, I dunno! ... I plan on suspending the coins using copper beads, so they have a lot of motion on either my bra or on a hip scarf I'm planning, or, or, or

Real copper isn't necessarily super bright and shiny, so you are probably not completely on the wrong track.

maybe you could get some "real" copper coins and use both cheap & real on one project...that would sort of counterbalance the cheapyness:)

Yeah, coins of any kind are not necessarily shiny. I'm just out for the attention they garnish (huh, garnish is kindof fitting, lol). Perhaps I need to come off my crow/shiny fetish a little.

Hmmmmm. (I love this message board!)

And congrats, Athena, on being an official Bhuzzer or bhuzzard or ... ..l;,

Depending on the project's particular design, you could always include mirrors, or big, flat sequins (which are easily available in silver and gold, copper is a different story). That gives lots'a bling in an instant ;-)

For what you'd spend in paint, varnish & enough of those coins on a ribbon to cover a whole costume, you could just buy a bag of loose copper coins and save the time & trouble.

Uh, I hadn't found copper coins anywhere when I wrote here last. You put coins in a search you get brass/gold or silver. You put copper coins in a search and you get pennies and other "real" coins.

I didn't know the fake kind existed in copper until I randomly clicked on a link here on bhuz today.

Lots easier to buy and better than my spray painted ones!

on the other hand, i do already have the coins, the paint and the varnish --- only they look crappy: a cautionary tale!
