Please HELP! What to do with all this fabric?
Hi all,
I have these three absolutely gorgeous fabrics, and I just can't decide what to do with them. I twisted my ankle two weeks ago, and still have a few weeks of physical therapy during which I won't be able to practice full time, so I thought that now is the perfect time to turn all of those treasures I accumulated in my project chests into beautiful costumes.
The black ones are the dowry I got from my wonderful teacher Alcina, right before we moved back to Israel, the fuchsia one I bought in a fabric store in Tel Aviv.
The black ones are basically chiffon, one with metallic threads, and the other with velvet animal print, both are a bit over 3 yards. Both don't drape well. The fuchsia one is also pretty stiff, it's a square of 1.24 yard (114cm).
What do you think?
I really want to sew a dress out of the metallic one, either a ghawazee type of coat or a straight Fifi dress, but I'm afraid that the fabric is too stiff for this. I was thinking of using it with plain chiffon, for sleeves and maybe gores, so that I have left overs to cover bra& belt.
The fuschia fabric is so tiny, that I was thinking of cutting the roses out as appliques for bra&belt costume. But it's so beautiful, so the decision has been really hard for me.
Any suggestions? I know this forum is full of savvy seamstresses, so I'm really counting on your help. I promise to report back with the results.
Huge thanks in advance!

panel skirts! especially the pink one! the kind with just one long rectangle in front, and one long rectangle in back, to be worn with a chiffon underskirt or something :) easy-peasy to make and so pretty!

The fushia would also make a nice turkish vest (especially since it is a little stiff). You could actually get 2 vests out of it - vests take so little fabric.

I think the metalic piece would make a great Ghawazee coat, using chiffone for the sleeves. And I am going to agree with using the fuchia for a panel skirt or bra / belt base.

Yes to ghawazee coat with the metallic! It's tailored so it can stand to be stiff, and in fact is probably going to be better stiff.
Have to say it makes a stunning skirt as well...
