Pale Girls!
Do any of you think that a pale person (who has no intentions of tanning) can pull off a yellow/gold costume? Or would I be better to walk away from the pretty, affordable costume I have my eyes on and go for something a bit more typical like a royal blue, dark red, or black?

Re: Pale Girls!
I think it depends on the costume and the specific color. Also depends on your hair color.

Re: Pale Girls!
I think it all depends on your undertones and the shade of yellow you pick.
I'm a classic "winter," so I have yet to really find a solid yellow that works on me. I'm all about bright red, fuchsia, royal, and teal costumes. Then again, when I wear my buttercup yellow sweater with a turquoise or navy Polo underneath, I can actually get away with it.
That being said, I think having some sort of colored accent, preferably on the bra top so it's close to your face, can be a HUGE help.

Re: Pale Girls!
I have black hair...and the costume is a pale yellow with some brownish accent bead work...I think I can pull it off, but I might be hallucinating too. *sigh* I'll probably end up going for a safe bet - I just think the costume is pretty...it's not "jaw dropping", but I don't why, but I like it everytime I see it...

Re: Pale Girls!
if you love it, get it. you'll feel great whenever you wear it.
I get tired of it when people proclaim "I can't wear X color" because, really, anybody can wear any color provided it's the right shade and intensity. I'm super pale with yellow undertoned skin and dyed red hair. I had a deep daffodil yellow costume and I LOVED it. right now it's owned by a pale blonde. I wouldn't look so hot in a pale yellow with silver costume, but I can still wear yellow.

Re: Pale Girls!
Thanks, Elisa! I'm having a friend look at the costume and have her give me honest feedback if she thinks it will look good or not....if she gives a thumbs up, I'm buying it this weekend!

Re: Pale Girls!
I totally think it depends on your overall coloring, not just skin tone, and the shade of yellow/gold of the costume. I'm very fair, but wear gold much better than silver because of my hair and eye color. I frequently wear my gold coin set with a soft yellow/honey-colored skirt...really, I'm about as fair as they come, but this really flatters me.

Re: Pale Girls!
I have extremely, extremely fair skin (lighter than your average redhead) with dark brown hair and blue eyes. I don't really like yellow, so I don't wear it, so I can't advise you on that. I feel it makes me look a bit jaundiced.
Gold is a completely different story, I wear gold and it looks great. You just have to find the right shade of it, you might be more comfortable with a more orange-y gold than a more yellow-y gold, but I am pretty sure that just about every skin tone can look great in gold.

Re: Pale Girls!
I wear antique gold all the time. Pale creamy yellow as well. Get me into bright yellow and I look like walking death. Well, maybe not that bad, but the costume will wear me as opposed to me wearing the costume.
Oh, and my skin, when I am not tanned, can basically be read through. I have to have my foundation custom mixed because even porcelain is too dark.
So the key is trying it on and seeing what it looks like in the proper light.

Re: Pale Girls!
It's all about the right shade. I have light skin with yellow undertones and I'm a born again redhead. I lightly tan and use a little tanning moisturizer. Here I am in my gold yellow costume with olive chiffon: http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos...0_788111_n.jpg
I didn't think it worked when I first saw the costume, but I get lots of compliments. What *doesn't* work on me are very true yellows, cold shades. Those tend to work on the brunettes with the white skin with pink undertones. (I don't really know my lingo, so don't correct me ladies.) It's all about about finding the right shade. Try and return honey, try and return.

*doesn't read any of the others and jumps in*
It depends entirely on whether it suits you or not. If the yellow/gold of the costume makes your skin look glowing and pretty and you don't look violently ill in it, and you like it and it fits, buy it.
I can't really carry off yellow at any time, but some pale people look lovely in yellows and golds.

Re: Pale Girls!
I'm another pale person who can't wear yellow, but can definitely wear the right shade of gold.

Re: Pale Girls!
I like to call my pale skin "porcelain doll-esque." ;D I cannot wear yellows either (I look jaundiced), but I can wear dark metallic golds/bronzes. I usually opt for silver since it looks better on me anyway.

Re: Pale Girls!
I think I agree with everything said, and like it! I've found as I've progressed, alot of "Pros" feel it is part of the Cabaret costume to have a bronzed look. (No offense, Ladies. On some of you it looks awesome!) I, however, have always maintained a very fair look, like the look of my skin the most this way, and don't like feeling pressured to tan (if I even could). I won't get into stories right now about people saying I look bad being pale, but, it does happen. So yay! Pretty pale people!
I would say that I can pull off a gold, though maybe not yellow. If it's a bright yellow, maybe, though I'm not a fan of the color. Just not anything too pale. I also have pale blond hair. My sister used to joke that I looked like a banana when I wore yellow! ;-)
You can see me in my gold bedlah set in my gallery; as I put those pics up a long time ago, I don't know how to find the address now to embed them here.
