    Pregnancy and Saidi tips

A friend was a little horrified yesterday when I told her I'm teaching Saidi right now while preggo, because of the "jumping". I told her that if you're jumping in Saidi, you're doing it wrong. I don't consider the heel bounce with the front of the foot on the floor to be a jump - you're not actually supposed to hop up into the air. But, I don't know a lot about pregnancy fitness. Is this still too ballistic for me, and should I stop? Should I dial it back while studying this in Egypt next month?

If you are a normal healthy person it should not be a problem. Overheating is far more an issue with pregnancy. Also watch that hyperflexibility doesn't lead to you stretching beyond your strength. If you are worried talk to your midwife.

One of my troupe mates was performing sa`iidi in her third trimester and was fine (apart from the effect of the bouncing on her bladder)

That's what I figured. So far, I don't feel any warmer or more flexible than before. Just very, very hungry.

    Thanks.

ballistic movements (think sharp jab/punch) are generally not recommended due to that same loose ligament issue, ditto with jumping, but saidi (at least as I know it) should be fine. the only thing I am really avoiding teaching right now is floorwork, & I tend to just slow down in general as the pregnancy progresses. More than likely there will be movements that will be uncomfortable for you at some point, but just listen to your body & don't push yourself & you should be fine

If you look down and there's a baby on the floor....you're doing too much.

I'm not sure if there's a medical reason we shouldn't jump, but I'd love to know if there is because I've been afraid to.

That said, I did go to a saidi workshop with Nourhan Sharif while 7 months pregnant. And nothing bad happened.
