Thread: Eye makeup mixing medium?

It looks like when the glitters are applied here, they are first blended with a mixing medium. Would any of you have a recommendation for that?

I use Mehron mixing liquid, available at costume shops or online here:

FYI, if you buy Eye Kandy glitters and their fixative, it has exactly the same ingredients as the Mehron fixative.

Thanks! I've just recently seen you guys mention Eye Kandy in posts here, but it's not something locally available to me so I never knew about it. A couple of my troupe mates and I are going to a MAC counter soon in a city an hour and a half away from here to see what they recommend for stage. Basically we're just doing that for fun, though.

MAC has both water and gel-based mixing mediums.

I've also used plain old face lotion and Vaseline. Vaseline tends to creep and slide around, though.

I got a water-proof glue in a bottle at Sephora - don't have it here, but it is a sealer in a little bottle, came in a black cardboard box. It is a bit of a nuissance to use (dries too quick on the brush and gets clumps), but it lasts nicely: I sweat a lot, and it stays put after hours.

I'm mixing my own following the recipe below. I highly recommend this make-up channel, I've learned so much about brushes, primers, mixing mediums, etc...

you can also use the clear sealer that comes with the long lasting lipsticks, though not officially for eye use it works in a pinch

Lube! As in a personal lubricant.

Put a little lube on your eye with your finger. Dip your finger into glitter, and pat onto eyelid. Keep the eye closed for a few seconds while everything dries. Works like a charm, and lasts. You can make it as thin/light or as thick/heavy as you want. You can also use a q-tip.

You can mix 1 part glycerin to 3 parts water for mixing medium, but I use MAC's Fix+. I spray a little bit on my brush and then pat (no not sweep) the color on.

I use veggie glycerine and water. I use veggie glycerine in my hair, as a moisturiser, as a makeup base, etc ,etc
