Re: Ultra Bad-Ass Vintage Costumes
In I, Claudius, there are two examples of (pseudo?) bellydancing from the 70s!
I Claudius Episode 6 "Queen of Heaven" Complete" - YouTube
Zills player. While the historical authenticity is questionable, I really like that strangely cut top she wears (First minute, after the credits). Not a bad backbend!
I Claudius Episode 12 "Old King Log" Complete! - YouTube
At 3:50, just a brief bit of the drum solo (we unfortunately, only see he from the back).
So, just some random bit of 'ancient roman bellydance' goodness!

Re: Ultra Bad-Ass Vintage Costumes
This is the most wonderful collection of images I have seen -- thank you to those who have added to them!
And, I hope this isn't too off topic (moderators, smack my hand and move this as needed); but, how does one make the older "girdle" style belts -- like the one in the Yvonne De Carlo promo pics? I have attempted something like that before and failed -- it was "too soft" and rode up.
Any advice appreciated!

Re: Ultra Bad-Ass Vintage Costumes
Yeah, I'd been searching Yvonne De Carlo all arvo... plus sheherezade, salome, hotel sahara, desert hawk, etc... short of finding and watching the movies, I'm not sure how else to go about it.... gorgeous woman, figure to die for!
I'd be happy just to find a full-length picture of this costume somewhere, but this is the only one I've found with this particular costume, full stop!

found one! The blog it is from claims it is Gloria Swanson; but, I do not know enough to confirm.

Re: Ultra Bad-Ass Vintage Costumes
Yes, that is Gloria Swanson from the 1925 film "Stage Struck." Here are some pictures of the full costume. The first one is too big to post, but it is worth the extra click. Has anybody figured out how to resize since the upgrade?
