    I looooooove this thread!

Shems, how do you find those treasures! .w.:..g.:

BTW, would you believe that I have a pair of similar vintage sequined shoes from the 60s! ..l;,..l;,

Can't dance in those, but I promise myself that when I get a professional photoshot, I'm going to wear them for and "old school look" pic! He, he, he!

you know...everywhere. Rhea, Piper and Melina are featured in the last three...I love the one with the pregnant Rhea. And the woman with the sequined shoes is from Zorba's restaurant website, they had a few other historical photos, but this one and the one above it were the only ones that really showed the costume. I only posted the first one for her hairstyle...the costume...meh

I thought so too. This was a still taken during the filming of a movie, so she's playing a character.

Ceyvadhazine, back then most american dancers made their own costumes. Sometimes they used Indian Sari material, which had beautiful borders, often golden. In addition, many edged their sheer skirts with satin blanket trim, or so I've read.

Satin blanket trim is still around, and comes in a world of colors. I'm just sayin'....

Aw, I shouldn't have said that. It's just that our military has a reputation for turning women into sex objects wherever they go. Of course, there are women and men like that everywhere and perhaps we're just being blamed for it.

(No offense to anyone here who strips as well. it's just that often times women who would rather not end up doing this or much worse to survive.)

    Marta Schill, I believe.

BTW, funny story. Back in the 8o's I ordered this album and it arrived with no record inside!!

I bought David Carroll Orchestra album, with the belly dancer on the cover and there was no album inside that either (if you buy albums from junk stores, always make sure the records in the sleeve). That was a beautiful costume, with a fish scale pattern.

The second photo is of American dancer Cia Beverly Cirel. I believe the first photo is her as well:

This is also supposed to be her, but I can't see the resemblence. This woman is much more exotic looking to me. Turkish, I'd say:

John Vartan's website, where I found her name:

Natalie Wood was far and away the movie star I most wanted to be when I was a little girl. (Little did I know of her tragic life, though.)

Me, too. You might not believe it, but back then (80's) I picked albums for the covers and the costumes in them, since I didn't really know most of the music, except for George Abdo.
