BlueCat Dress Project-from a B to a DD-Now Done!!!
Ok...I am keeping it! My lower body loves it. My upper body dwarfs it. So.... here we go. Opening the lining - not too many threads are holding beading in the mango shaped size cups. The zipper stops going up at my lower rib cage. The black bra will be the transplanted organ and the mango sized cups will be amputated. The dress will be zipperless and backless with a deep plunge to the small of my back. The bra has a wide stable elastic band that will be covered in fabric and decorated and will provide scaffolding for the dress to hang off of.
First is a pic of Aradia..loks great on her, huh? I think she comes up to my navel! Who knew? Pix of me with a DVD for scale. See the problem?

Re: Blue Cat ICU Project-STAT
That is a pretty dress. Glad you can adapt it. The original cups seem an odd shape.

Re: Blue Cat ICU Project-STAT
If you dig into most dress cups...that is the way they look. I dont know why, I call it the ships prow cup. This one was the size of a mango. I need cantelopes.

Re: Blue Cat ICU Project-STAT
So if you are opening up the back are you using the extra fabric you remove to cover the larger cups? Do you take pictures of the original details before surgery.

Re: Blue Cat ICU Project-STAT
I have some lycra stretch net from spandex world that is a dead match. I will cover one cup of the new bra with this and the other cup with a holo gold. I think I may just roll and stitch the "extra" (ha) fabric at the back into a V shape after the zipper is removed.

This is too good not to keep. I am glad you are staying with it.

Re: Blue Cat ICU Project-STAT
More pix so you can truely appreciate the need for this. The cups have been removed from the dress with minimal bead loss due to the fact that the cups were lined on the outside and most of the beading was thru the lining rather than into the cups themselves.
Cropped for your viewing pleasure:

Minimal bead loss

Stuff to sew on if needed

Anala, I'm so glad you decided to keep this dress. I know it's a pain in the butt, but it will look so smokin' hot on you when you're finished. The minimal bead loss so far is great. That should make it alot easier. Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Blue Cat ICU Project-STAT
For knowing what is possible surgery wise: What was the original cup size and the new one?

Re: Blue Cat ICU Project-STAT
That had to have been a B small C. See the photos above for scale. The donor bra will be a D. It seams that when you cover a bra...it shrinks a size. This one may not shrink as much as I will be covering it with a 4 way stretch fabric and making the stitches loose, as the bra will not show. The donor bra's chest and back band will remain in place but will be covered from sight with a "flap" of beaded lycra that will run from underarm to underarm with 2hook closures under the right pit.
Bigest problem....the beaded "cup covers" will not be high or wide enough to cover the donor bra. Will need to add beafier asymetrical panels that run from cup to opposite shoulder. Debating about removing the beaded border at the top of the cut to facilitate a smoother transition from old to new.Last edited by anala; 06-06-2009 at 02:28 PM.

Re: BlueCat Dress Project-from a B to a DD-updated pix
hmm, I'm a 34 D, and the only thing that really kept me from keeping the dress for myself was that it was 5 inches too long, and the cut outs were in all the wrong places, I was flashing things I shouldn't

So I would say the cup was a C at least, I can't fit into anything smaller than a C cup, but they do that weird demi cut, mango.......that's a good description

My over all chest and shoulders are massive compared to you, my petite flower.....I didnt take that into consideration when I bought it. I think I will like it even better when I am done. The top will be more proportionate to me.

Re: BlueCat Dress Project-from a B to a DD-updated pix
The one reason I'd like to see Bellydance get CRAZY popular is so we could have reality show with a team of us responding to costume emergencies...but there would have to be some liberal time-lapse editing because we'd be at "This Old House" pace iinstead of Project Runway speeds.
Anala, you'd make the team.
