Question What kind of jewelry with Egyptian Cabaret Costumes?

.p:: So, egyptian cabaret costumes always seem to be so complete, ..and Seriously bedazzled..so what kind of jewelry do you wear with them? I know a lot of people just don't, but how often, and what, do people wear jewelry with their EC costume??? Pics anyone?

I was taught that you have to wear jewelry - to complete the outfit. There is a great costume jewelry store in Boston (it's a national chain, I think) - anyway, I go there and get matching bling - necklaces, earrings, sometimes bracelets. I don't really enjoy wearing bracelets when I dance, but earrings and necklaces and occasionally blingy hair clips, absolutely.

I usually wear rhinestone necklace and earrings (and sometimes bracelet) with my cabaret costumes, along with some of the arm accessories that costumes come with these days.
Some people wear the Indian sets with cabaret- I prefer to see those with Indian costuming. They DO come in pretty colors though.

I second on rhinestone jewelry necklace and earrings. They do make colors to match costumes. I sometimes use a rhinestone headband in clear rhinestones.

I want, want, waaaaaaaaaaant a Swarovski crystal headband. They are so utterly drool-worthy. But about £200. ..cr.:

I can't wear costume jewellery - my skin seems to be either really acidic or really alkaline and it just peels the fake gold/silver right off costume jewellery. Add sweaty dancing to that, and you've got a single-wear item that you'd need to throw away. ,f:: Even costume jewellery is expensive if you can only wear it once!

I've bought some sterling silver (no nasty skin reaction) jewellery that has some nice big blingy cubic zirconia stones in it. Metal is friendly to my skin, nice sparkly bling, and a middle price range - which I much prefer to an endless expense of cheap single-wear sparkles. If you go for clear stones, you can wear them with any costume! ..g.:

rhinestone is fine. Jewellery must never be too fine, else it won't be visible. We have a fabulous shop around here with svarovski crystal pearls of all shapes and you can design your own stuff but I haven't done that. My teacher wears necklaces and bracelets made of huge pearls and first I thought, umpf wouldn't this look too ethno on a cab costume? But it combined surprisingly well. She has this necklace, she wears it on the entrance picture but you can see it better when you click below on "buchen" on the right side Bauchtänzerin Hamburg ••• Yaminah | Bauchtanz Hamburg also she had bracelets of big big black pearls which answered her dark hair wonderfully.

I'm going to be a voice of dissent. The last thing you want with a nice streamlined elegant modern egyptian costume is massive over the top jewelry. I think small and streamlined is best. A simple delicate chain with blingey pendant or similar. Not the kitchen sink in rhinestones and enamel. You don't see Randa, Dina, Leila, Asmahan etc etc etc wearing their grandmother's dowry around their neck!!

I agree Zafirah it has to suit the overall style of dancer and costume and mood and personality and everything. Maybe if you have wonderful shiny long hair in a wonderful colour, a beautiful face and so you can go without jewellery apart from your costume... Then again, it's up to everybody to define what's matching bc that's the fun of it!

Most of the time a lovely pair of earrings complete the ensemble. But if the cossie didn't come with something for the arms, I include bracelets and armbands.

Ah...I didn't assume only "modern Egyptian" cabaret. I was thinking Egyptian cabaret.
I think the size of the jewelry should compliment the dancer's frame as well as the costume. I've bought larger pieces that were too big for me although I love them. I think some chains/pendant combinations are too "everyday" looking for belly dance bling, but some work beautifully. Rhinestone jewelry comes in all sizes, shapes and colors. ..g.:

Re: What kind of jewelry with Egyptian Cabaret Costumes?

I have this small Hamsa pendant on a black silk chain that I have been wearing since just before I got pregnant. A little superstitious but so far it has worked. Anyway, I refuse to take it off even to dance. So when I was performing, it was very odd to have this "plain" piece of jewelry along with a gorgeous bejeweled costume. I would really feel self-conscious without my rhinestone necklaces.

Of course at this point I can no longer wear my bejeweled costumes and the hamsa goes fine with the stretchy beledi dress I still fit into so I'm good.
