Reinforcing Metal Coin Costume Sets
I have one of those mass-produced mirror-and-bell sets that looks like a Costless but actually costs less than $1,000 ,r:;
My one problem with it is that it never seems to hold up the way I want it to. The metal rings that hold the pieces together just seem way too flimsy for their own good, and the darned thing always seems to fall apart on me.
How do I prevent this from happening? I don't want to send my nice little coin set off to the Island of Misfit Costumes ,f::

Re: Reinforcing Metal Coin Costume Sets
you can sew the coinset to a firm base, which would reduce te amount of strain on most of the metal rings. I have the same set and I check the rings before and after a performance and close them with a pair of pliers if they start to open.
Replacing all the metal rings would be more time consuming then checking it, I suspect that the rings strong enough to hold everything together are also too strong for me to bend.

I haven't had problems with the ones which hold the medalions together. But I do second mounting it on a base because that will add to the longevity and less wear and tear on your skirts.
The other thing to do is to replace the jump rings as they come loose. I have a bag of split jump rings - they look like mini key rings - and as the jump rings come loose, I replace them. If you are being obsessive, you might want to sit down and do the major ones all in one showing. Get Titanic out and see how much you can get done!

I have one also and i fell apart frequently but since I am a chain maille fan I just replaced the cheepo rings for sturdier rings. A good place to go for those rings is The Ring Lord Chainmail Chain Mail Maille Supplies

I bought a silver coin bra and belt 17 years ago and immediately created a bra and belt to mount them on and to this day I have only lost maybe 10 coins. Pliers and a quiet morning on the kitchen table with a cup of coffee helps!
