    bolero&belt set

    Dear Dancers,

I am running out of time and lack of ideas...due to my large bustline, i dont feel confident to wear "just" a bra. I was thinking of making a bolero&belt set so as to wear my bra under.

Please, pleaseeeeeeee i need ideas to bead, specially the top i have seen many bra designs in the net but not beaded boleros...c::

    Please, advice needed ..cr.:

Thanks a million for your help...

I have two sets that are just that. Both are Madame Abla and have beautiful but surprisingly simple beading. They are lycra tops tha I wear my own bra under. The top has a sweatheat neckline and is pinched in the center front bottom. The belt is a sarong type wrap that is closed in the center front. Both are beaded around all the edges, of course in the //// diagonal pattern. The body of the pieces have large beaded spirals. To save time you could make spirals out of prestrung sequins and then run a line of beading along one or both sides of the line of sequins. At the center of each spiral is a rhinestone. But you could also put a small cluster of fringe there are well. I wear these with a body stocking of coordinated color and chiffon skirts in the same color so it gives a longer body line.

As far as the general public is concerned, the classic bolero style looks like "I Dream of Jeannie," where the vest has trim running around the edge seams, and it is open in the front to show off a dance bra. (Most of the vest is left undecorated, but if you use nice fabric, this isn't a problem.) I made a vest/harem pants set of light blue satin to go with a silver bra/belt set. I left the harem pants plain, and edged the vest in three rows of sequins and silver beads that I found to match the bra/belt.

Have you looked at Dahlal's "Dancer Designs"? They have a lot of different ideas for turning scarves and accessories into costumes, and you might find an idea you could adapt there.

I think I saw some bolero and skirt sets on Dahlal's website recently.

You could use a tank top base and shorten it, embellish the straps/sleeves/epaulets and emdroider the front.

Also, you can use a corset pattern and shorten it to make a BD top that will be supportive (work intensive, I know)

Or, you could cannibalize the underwires of an old bra and transplant them into a new top (something like a L. Rose mid-line choli).

I had a gorgeous bedlah that I loved that would fit the bill for you. The operative word is "had" -- I just sold it! My sorta hourglass shape and the skirt just didn't work out together -- but the top was awesome!

The top fit almost like a short-sleeve (to just above the elbow) choli attached directly to the bra. The whole thing was decorated as one unit. Dang! I wish I had it here so I could explain how it all worked or even post a pic of it!

I think what I liked about it so much was that it didn't look like a separate vest -- it was one unit with the bra so it didn't look "added on." It might have been a Madame Alba.

My mom and daughter are almost as heart-broken over the sale of that costume as I am -- but the shape of the skirt just didn't work with my figure and there wasn't anything I could do about it with out a truly major re-bead of the skirt. You know, individually-attached sequins that flowed seamlessly from one color to another, rhinestones, beads . . . it truly is a stunning costume.

    <sigh>

Hope you can find what you're looking for!

    Dear Dancers,

Thanks a lot for your advices, I will try to make a nice bolero&belt set, what do you think about a full red, turquoise or fucsia one for a fair skin, brown eyes & hair?

    Kisses!

I think any of those colors will work, nur. I am very pale, and I look best in cool colors plus red. (Orange, yellow, and florescent colors look terrible on me.)
