    permanent makeup on older skin...

I'm curious about having my eyebrows tattooed - they're blonde and fine, and I really only make them up when I'm on stage or going out (too busy being a mom!), and I look sooo much better with visible eyebrows! but, I'm concerned about how they wear once you're 50, 60 years old? I'm 40 now and starting to see the signs of things to come... also, I've had conventional tattoos for 20+ years so I have seen on my own bod how a fine line will blur and migrate.

anybody with personal experience, or that knows somebody over 40/50 who has had permanent makeup done?

My boss, who is probably 68 or 69, has had her brows and eyeliner done. I think she has to have it touched up every so many years. Looks very natural. She is very fair, natually blonde.

Interesting question! I have the same issue. I've dyed mine before, using a special eyebrow dye I bought on amazon. I used Vaseline all around the brow to keep the skin from staining, and I was pretty happy with the results. A little too dark at first, faded gradually and looked good for a couple of months.

Tattooing sounds interesting, but I'd be worried about the permanence of it if the color came out too dark or something. Plus, up close would it be obvious that the skin is dark but the hairs are light?

As we age, our natural hair color usually fades (even if it doesn't gray right away), as does brow hair, lip color and even eye color. Sure, not everyone is the same, but I think it is common enough to be considered "normal." I suppose alot of the decision has to do with how well the color you select will age with you. Since your brows are very blonde and fine, I'd go for the lightest shade that gives you a hint of color for daytime and go for the make-up when performing or going out.

I'd be really leery of doing anything dark at all. It doesn't go with your coloring.

And could be scary for small children and puppies when you're 85!

Every tattooed brow/eyeline I've ever seen has been really obvious, because it's that blue-black colour of old school tatts. Maybe they do them better now? In any case, I would really, really avoid that look.

I think you also need to go for a fairly natural shape. I know someone who lost her brows and has tattooed ones that are semi-circles and they are not as flattering as they could be.

I 've seen a lot of permanent makeup performed at the same place where I had my electrolysis done. I think the eyebrows looks really good and they are NOT done in "blue-black", they are done to match your general coloring. I think they "draw" them on first and fill in with the color they'll be using so you get to check first if they are the right shape / color. Over time they fade out and will need to be retouched. Just ask to see examples of previous work if you need reassurance or to confirm the level of artistry of your technician.

I've seen permanent eyeliner and lipstick too and am not such a big fan of those. But I think everyone needs defined eyebrows, I'm actually trying to convince my mom to do it since she never remembers to do it with makeup.
