Gross Topic of the Day: Covering a Crusty Biopsy Scar
After a biopsy for melanoma last week, my right forearm still looks something like a battle zone. The wound is about the size of a pea. But it's crusty, scabby and quite disgusting. Doesn't seem to be getting any better, any time soon.
Me and my arm-crater were just hired for an Arabian Nights party at an upscale Italian restaurant this Saturday. So I need advice on concealing this bad boy.
Is it too soon for concealer? Are gauntlets or sleeves my only hope? Help!

You need to keep the crater moist..so ointment and a bandaid are in order...sleeves!

Re: Gross Topic of the Day: Covering a Crusty Biopsy Scar
i think a gauntlet or sleeve would be a better option because you don't want to impact the wound with makeup, then have to wash it all out. it might hinder your healing process. why not just cover it with some gauze & medical tape and put a pretty sleeve over it for the gig?

They don't make belly dancer bandages? (They make bacon, so there has to some with camels or sparkles!)

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL at the bacon band-aids! This is the first time I've ever gotten hungry looking at bandages...
And yeah, concealer might be wishful thinking ,r:;,r:;,r:;
Off to check out my sleeve collection...

yeah, I wouldn't put makeup on a wound like that. Just be thankful you can cover it with a sleeve!

Use Neosporin or Polysporin. Plastic surgeons recommend them to help prevent scarring. The idea is to use it on those "crusty" surfaces to keep the area supple.
Believe me, this stuff works!

Re: Gross Topic of the Day: Covering a Crusty Biopsy Scar
Been loading up on Neosporin. Now that the wound has closed up, I'm using some vitamin E oil per my dermatologist's suggestion. I'm really afraid of getting a big gnarly scar, especially if the results come back positive and I have to get a more extensive surgical procedure to remove it ,f::
But hey, I also discovered that the bacon band-aid makers have a fine T-bone band-aid, as well. Guess it's not ALL bad.

I had reconstructive plastic surgery on my lip a few years ago from an accident and the surgeon suggested I keep using the Neosporin for a few weeks after the wound healed. He thought it was better than Vitamin E. But I have to say that I had a bad burn and used Vitamin E and had no scarring either.
And I'm saying a prayer right now that you don't get any positive results.

Re: Gross Topic of the Day: Covering a Crusty Biopsy Scar
*hugs* I guess waiting for important medical test results is one time when "negative" news is preferable!
Happily, I'm doing a little E and a little Neosporin. Here's to the best of both worlds ,r:;

Where is it? Can you cover with one arm band, over a small dry dressing? That would you wouldn't have to sacrifice wearing gauntlets if you didn't want to. The dressing would protect the wound as well as an arm band or gauntlet.
A non-stick dressing should do, with some gauze wrapped around it. They sell them at CVS. They sell the non-stick dressing in different sizes, sounds like you only need a 2X2. This dressing will not stick to your wound. If it isn't moist, you can just use a 2X2 gauze instead, and then wrap with the rolled gauze. If it is so small use a band aid.
Cover with you costume arm band(s) or gauntlets and you will be golden!Last edited by bdaddiction; 06-16-2009 at 10:01 PM.

Re: Gross Topic of the Day: Covering a Crusty Biopsy Scar
I don't have any advice, but is it o.k. to cover it at all until it heals? I'm concerned if it gets moist, or rubbed off, it might scar worse?
I'm so sorry you're going through this.

Re: Gross Topic of the Day: Covering a Crusty Biopsy Scar
It's on the top side of my right forearm, midway between my wrist and my elbow. So kind of in a "Heyyyyy there, look how crusty I am!" location ,r:;
Perhaps, if I don't want to wear gauntlets or sleeves, I can attach a bindi to it. Nobody will ever know what I am hiding ,r:;,r:;,r:;

Arm bands would do, do you have any? It should cover a bandaid or a small dressing.
If you put a bindi on it, ewww... and it falls off because it is moist that would not be pretty...

Armbands would be good. Or if you don't have any to match, you can go to the fabric store and make some from some sequin trim, just sew them yourself. And best of all, you can put it over a bandaid dressing like the one that bdaddiction was talking about.

Re: Gross Topic of the Day: Covering a Crusty Biopsy Scar
If I cover it with a bindi, people might think it was a third eye. And nobody would mess with me! ..g.:
Some type of arm band should do. Hopefully the ones that come with my fuchsia Eman will cover what needs to be covered!

It should work, try it!
lol - yeah you know you could add eyeshadow over it and wow it will be a fabulous eye. Ha!

3M Nexcare bandages come in small sizes, and they are clear so they don't stand out like those large, supposedly flesh-colored ones. Do you have any metal arm bracelets/cuffs? A big snake bracelet might look less obvious than a bindi.

Re: Gross Topic of the Day: Covering a Crusty Biopsy Scar
Whew! What a relief. The arm bands that go with my fuchsia Eman are much longer than I remembered. So now I can dance my pants off and nobody will know I'm packin' a crater the size of Alaska on my arm!
I do kind of think the evil-eye bindi decoration would be sexay and fierce, though .w.:

Ooo nice catch Fotia. I think maybe a few sticky rhinestones would add the perfect touch, unless the face eyelash already has them. Ha!

I have some funky glittery fake eyelashes I could put on my "evil eye." Maybe I can even get the feathered kind from Sephora!

They do sell super sparkly silver band-aids at Target and Wal-Mart. I get those and the fairy band-aids all of the time. :D
I hope that your results come out negative, Satin!
