    coin hole punch

    I need advice.
I am currently using a 2 hole punch from fire mountain gems. I think with all the coins I been making holes with I killed it. I know there are pre-made holed coins but I don't want it to have the same coins. Are there any other techniques. I can use. I just purchased for 5.00 a lot of old foreign coins off eBay. I am going to make a belt with some of them. I need a better way to put holes in coins. Any ideas or suggestions to do it. will be helpful. I tried a drill but my hubby only has large ones and too noisy.
I would appreciate the help thanks!

Drill press and a good vise. Wear goggles, gloves, apron and headset for your ears.

Sorry, that is the best advise I can give. You might have luck with a Dremal instead of a drill.

I chatted w/ the lady who sells coin jewelry at the local artists' market, and it sounds as if Tahira is right on: The coin lady said she uses a drill press, and that doing this well required a bit of practice.

Sorry, I don't have any quiet suggestions. I use a regular old hand-drill.

I use a drill press. It's a bit noisy but not bad.

If you drill them, you will then have to grind them down to remove the burrs.

I like my "Roper-Whitney No. 5 Junior" for making really nice holes in coins or other like objects. One still needs to file down the sharp edges just a little if you plan on securing the coins with thread (to keep the edges from cutting through the thread).

Thanks for the advice. My husband does have a dremel tool as well.
I just may have to make sure I don't do late night drilling.
But I will check out other suggestions as well.

My boyfriend uses a Dremel Moto-Tool, Model 395 -- he uses it for coins, other metal findings, even antique glass pieces -- it doesn't sound extremely noisy to me and the results are nice, very clean ....

Didn't have a Dremmel when I was first using my #5 Jr (filed the holes by hand with those cute little jeweler's hasps). Since then my son (now 23) got into Dremmel, so I might just have to borrow his Dremmel the next time I go on a round of punching (unless the husband invests in one before then). ..l;,

I also use a drill press and a dremmel to file any burrs down. I do suggest using GOOD bits specifically made for metal (and change them fairly often).
