Question weird injury, has anybody had this?

I am having a strange intense pain in that cord that runs along the backside of one's knee. I doesn't hurt when I flex, only when I fully extend, and just started abruptly today.

It might be caused by a mishap I had yesterday, not sure. I was on the BART (subway system) and some crazy guy in a motorized wheelchair rammed it backward unexpectedly, pinning my ankle to the seat divider. .... oUch! He was ranting about something that peeved him at the time and was not looking where he was going. Anyway at this moment the train pulled out with a lurch and I think I might have twisted something then.

any advice from the anatomically wise?

don't know the injury but I miss BART. I grew up in Fremont & lived in SF for years. My final year of college I moved back to Fremont & rode BART every day to school. I always fell asleep on my way home & would wake myself up snoring, like where your head rolls back & you jerk up abruptly. It never ceased to amuse me.
Now i live in Maine. I love it but there is no public transportation & you can't get a decent burrito to save your life. Sigh...

how funny, I just finished eatign a burrito - it was awesome too! ..g.:

since we have already sidetracked into the inevitable food discussions which rampant on bhuz, let me share a recipe I invented.

    Curried Zucchini Taco-like Things:
    - cubed zucchini
    - old bay seasoning / turmeric / mild curry powder
    - chopped onion
    - garlic

I sautee the above in a bit of olive oil til slightly crispy, then put into a corn tortilla with a tiny pinch of shredded cheese, folded. I let the folded taco-like thing rest against the side of the pan, over low heat, to melt the cheese. then I peel it open & drop in a spoonful of salsa (I prefer chilly salsa and everything else warm). eat quickly. repeat.

Yummmmm. I'm coming "home" this weekend to visit my folks who now live up in Folsom. On my list of places to visit? Every freakin' taqueria in sight. Wish I had some time to look up some dancers & take a few classes. Land Friday at midnight, leave Tuesday at 6am. Woosh!
    Injury--maybe your IT band?

ACL? I remember a coworker had to get an operation for that, twice. But this is in the back of my knee, and his was in the front. I don't think it's unstable euither.

I finally broke down a few hours ago and took a painkiller (advil). I use them so infrequently that I didn't even know where they are kept in the house... Picture me hobble-hobbling around pulling open drawers like a junkie from Trainspotting, and you've got it. It was kind of funny, but also kind of not. ouch!!

Hmmm if you need painkillers, why not see a doctor to make sure what it is?
Preferably someone specialized in sports injuries and/or the knee..

It sounds as though you hyper extended the ligaments 9or maybe one) behind your knee, yes? If this is the case, the only thing I can suggest is time and advil. Elevating it and icing it may help, at least temporarily. If you don't notice improvement in the next 24 - 48 hours, definitely go see someone.

Good advice - rest it and check with doctor within the next 2 days if no improvement. Wear flat comfortable shoes.

If the pain doesn't go away in a few days after taking ibuprofen I would see a doctor, just to make sure you didn't tear anything. And the flat shoes are a real good idea too.

    Get well soon!!
