I'm trying to get in the habit of wearing my dance pants lower on my hips (as opposed to hiked up to my waist) and I find that I have this ugly dark line at my waist. I'm guessing this is from years of wearing my pants and skirts at the waist, I was never into hipsters. Is there any way to get rid of that mark? Is it even possible to get rid of it?
TIA,
Kem

Waistline issue...literally

Probably if your pants were cutting into your waist. However, if you keep wearing hipsters (which I do) that line should disappear.

Re: Waistline issue...literally
get a mild exfoliating (spelling?) cream and use it on your waistline everyday. also stick with hipsters and force yourself to wear everything low. as fotia said, it should disappear.
my 2 cents

Could it possibly be eczema? I know some people who have eczema, and it appears as a dark area on their skin. I wonder if your skin is being irritated by waistbands and is developing eczema in that spot. If so, you might try Galaxal Base as a non-irritating moisturizer. (This doctor-recommended for my daughter who has eczema.) Also, of course, avoid the irritation.

Shea butter and aloe mixed together help your skin heal.

How big is the line? I've seen some people who have a mark there from their belt buckles because they're allergic to the metal.

Re: Waistline issue...literally
It's about one inch wide. It's not eczema or allergies, it's just that the skin is darker. I don't wear my clothes ultra tight (and on the week ends it's baggy sweats central *g*) but it seems to be right where my waistbands usually rest.
I think I'll try some AHAs on it for a while and see how that goes. (ALso means I'm gonna have to shop for new hipster sweats... Oh no, not shopping! *wink*)

Re: Waistline issue...literally
I have this where I wear my jeans, and I don't wear tight jeans ... but it is a fold location ...
It's not an irritation, there's no raised anything, and it doesn't itch or like that, just a darkened place about an inch wide. Heck, I have a photo:

But ... I can't magically change my whole wardrobe, either, to cease wearing stuff at my navel.
Hm. Will watch this thread.

Re: Waistline issue...literally
My skin is darker where my bra straps rest. I'm pretty pale, and that skin and a few other places have a much yellower coloration, like I would if I tanned;) Back of the neck, where the elastic from panty-legs hits, etc. It's not rougher or dryer or anything, just darker.
Have you tried one of those build-up tanning moisturizers on your tummy? The "touch of sun" types? I don't know if it would dye the already darker skin even more, but maybe it would blend the surrounding skin with the darker line until wearing lower pants naturally fades the pigmentation...

Nadya/Clovis: that's exactly what I got, in the same places!
I don't think I'll do the self tanner thing just because I have yet to find one that doesn't turn me into a carrot. I'm uber-pale (my mom used to say that I glow in the dark *g*)

Karnak, that's exactly the type of lotion I was meaning. Not the self tanners, but the moisturizer with a little in, so you don't go all orange;o)
Yeah, I'm day-glo, too, and my Gran used to call the line on my neck my "dirty pearls." Like I could wash it off if I just scrubbed a little harder...

Re: Waistline issue...literally
Also, I have a cream for the keratosis pilaris on my outer arms--very quick at exfoliation. It's called AmLactin, and you can ask for it at the pharmacy counter. It's got lactic acid and ammonia (get it?) so it smells...just awful, but if the skin's reacting to the rubbing of the waistband, something like that might help with the cell turnover.
ETA: It's pretty strong stuff, so it could be irritating for sensitive skin, but it's a lot gentler than loofah-ing the crap out of yourself, if you were thinking about it;o)
