swear by those MAC paint pots

already have way too many MAC products but the other day a tech? talked me into showing me how the paint pots work, this one was a neutral beige that goes on the lid and then you can dab powder or pigment over it for color

it did not MOVE all day...even an idiot like me had a flawless eye shadow finish..was sooo impressed!!!

am fighting urge to buy more colors

Just for those on a budget . . . the Loreal H.I.P. creamshadow paint is pretty much the same product. It's magical!!!! It's also WAY cheaper.

Me too! I bought Painterly which has a shimmer effect to it, and couple of months later, I bought Bare Study which is a matte. I use one of these as a "base" and then apply color(s) over that. All I know is that my eye colors stay on for a looooong time.

My fave MAC paint is Groundwork...it's fabulous! I have been wearing it every day since I got it. Brownish orange colour. :-) Really makes blue eyes pop!

I use Constructivist paint pot which goes really well with my skin tone. I use it alone during the daytime with a bit of eyeliner and mascara. I also use it as the base for other shadows.

i love the paintpots. Benefit creaseless cream shadow is fabulous, too, and has many colours mac does not have.

For something not cream, but great colour and budget friendly: Barry M dazzle dusts. Pigment, but once dabbed on gets - hmm, "firm" powdery if that makes sense. Barry M ships worldwide, and so does Benefit.

my favorite paint pot is a l.e. I got off ebay, moss green. I really love bare study and blackground, too. Apparently for a dark dark eye look the liner pot (blacktied?) is even better used just like the paint pot (applied with a flat shader brush).

I'm so sad I can't use my paint pots that often anymore due to that stupid eczema patch on my eyelid!

I have most colors ..c:: but I absolutely love bare study, quite natural and blackground!

Paint Pots are one of the great loves of my life. I wear one at least three days out of the week. They are the perfect shadow for my oily eyelids.

I love the Mac paint pots for staying power, but they can dry out. As an eye lid primer I like Urban Decay under a shadow and it also stays well. Don't forget - those pots are recyclable :)

You're right and some of the shades are drier than others.

you have to store them upside down. anything like gel liners, smudge pots etc. I make sure the lid is well closed, put it in the original packaging upside down, and store them this way. This supposedly is the best way to not have them dry. I guess due to gravity virtually no air can enter, but just a guess :)

I love the MAC paint pots for shadow base, but had a heck of a time cleaning the brush I was using to apply it. Maybe I need to try a different brush cleaner? I was using a Sephora one.

I use MAC paint (in the tube) (bare canvas is the right color for me) as an eyeshadow base, or even the gel liner as a dark base for darker colors. They both also work FANTASTIC!

I agree that the L'Oreal HIP paints work really well for those of us on a budget. I got a few on sale at the drugstore for like $5 a piece. Black is a good one to use as a base for brighter colors; it makes the color show up really vibrant :D

Re: swear by those MAC paint pots

I'm a MAC paint pot addict! (okayfine... I'm a MAC everything addict!). For everyday looks, I use painterly or fresco rose. For stage looks I love delft when I'm doing peacock-y colors, indianwood for more neutral looks, artifact for purple/burgundy eyes, and blackground when I want to go with a superblack lid base.

Thanks for the upside-down storage tip, dinavienna! Mine haven't dried out yet, but I'm going to turn 'em over from now on to keep them alive longer. I did have a drugstore brand gel pot that dried out pretty quickly once.

Blackground is awesome for an ultra-black smoky look. I love Rubenesque for pretty much everything else, because it's a shimmery iridescent peach. It actually seems to make shimmer eyeshadows sparkle even more!

MAC products are wonderful. I prefer to support small independent businesses when possible, though, so ever since I discovered "Aromaleigh" cosmetics online I buy almost exclusively from them. The gel eyeliner is terrific (and waterproof) and the prices are great!

There are also some new glitters that are just gorgeous.

Here is the website if you want to check it out:Aromaleigh Pure Mineral Makeup | Natural Mineral Cosmetics

Oh, I forgot to add my secret to keeping the gel pot eyeliner from drying out too quickly: I keep each pot wrapped tightly in plastic cellophane from the kitchen and then I store it in a small plastic zip bag.

I have even had success rehabilitating a dry pot temporarily by adding a drop or two of quality olive oil.

MAC and Urban Decay - I don't use anything else anymore (except for Loreal Voluminous mascara). They are the best!

To prevent dry out, minimize the amount of air to which the product is exposed so close the lids tightly and when using, scoop out a small amount and close the pot immediately. Use what you scoop out, rather than leaving the pot open.

I splurged on their 'Alice in Wonderland' palette, and OMG I love it! Actually all the shades in it are from their regular eyeshadows, renamed to Alice in Wonderland names. But it's fine with me because the only one I had before was 'Midnight Cowboy'. Richly pigmented and wonderfully blendable!

If anyone is interested I can post the ones in it and their regular names.

It seems to be sold out everywhere :) I was HEAVILY tempted by it. but then I decided since I had gotten the Book of Shadows II (which I LOOVE and use all the time), and their deluxe palette I did not allow myself to get the Alice one. Also knowing there was not one shadow exclusive to the palette in there.
But if I had not bought the other two UD palettes I would have gotten Alice without a second thought. The colours are SO pretty and the packaging is adorable!

for anyone interested in UD: their shadows are awesome. They have a nice range of matte shadows, too, since makeupartists often recommend to mix finishes (like to use a matte highlight instead of a shimmery one if the lid colour is shimmery to not overpower) I got a few even though I am all for shimmer and frost. their deluxe shadows really are even better than the normal ones in terms of colour payoff and durability.
For anyone who wants to try out the UD shadows do get the deluxe palette. Neutral brownish (all a bit shimmery) colours, amazing colours for going out or stage makeup, awesome black..
Urban Decay Cosmetics - Deluxe Shadow Box

the one palette I'd recommend to everybody who does not have a huge makeup colleciton (like me 6 months ago :)) ). I got it for about 28 euros from ebay, there are some sellers who irregularly carry all of the UD pencils, palettes etc except for the limited editions. So worth searching every once in a while to get a good deal.

If you like to pull off reaaaally dark eye makeup onstage I would try MAC fluidline blacktrack as a base instead of blackground.
Can look so amazing on a stage I imagine:

Yep, I discovered that it was sold out on Sephora. I'll check out some of the other kits next time I'm near a Sephora store. Looking online is one thing, but seeing it in person is another!

    Thanks for the great suggestion.
