Identity crisis: I'm an Egyptian Dancer who loves Turkish cossies,,
I'm sick!
Bellas and Sims fit the girls, have tons of beading, are high quality, and are more bang for the buck
Egyptian cossies just aren't the same as Ablas and Pharonics once were. Minimilist beadwork, poor construction, bras for anorexic boobies, sigh.
Am I the only one that has a dance cossie personality disorder?

if you look around, you'll see MANY dancers really enjoy both of those designers, i think in part because it might be a slightly easier process to get custom orders? In any case, nothing wrong with a little cross cultural pollination :-)

Re: Identity crisis: I'm an Egyptian Dancer who loves Turkish cossies,,
I am definitely more Egyptian style dancer and recently decided to change my wordrobe to more "progressive" egyptian costumes to match my style. I got a few Emans and kept only two Bellas and couple other designers. I have to say that I've been feeling so naked on stage without my fringe belts and schiffon skirts. This minimalistic stuff is just not me. I need another costume makeover, only Bellas from now on.

Re: Identity crisis: I'm an Egyptian Dancer who loves Turkish cossies,,
I am definitely more in the Turkish corner dance- and music-wise, and am very fond of my Pharaonics, reverse disorder here ;-) For me, the more chunky, substantial feel of (some of) the older style Egyptian bedlahs is just a good match. I think of many Bellas as more etheral and refined, and not as raw and earthy as the Romani music I love - of course, I would not mind having one or two of her designs in my closet ;-) Anyways, I think it can go both ways.

I think there is such a mixing of styles now with the designers (for cabaret costumes). My Bella's have the same silhouettes as my Pharonics. The only designs I see that really scream Egyptian or Turkish to me are usually airport specials, or the minimalist Egyptian styles that the gp just doesn't "get" anyhow.

I don't think there is really a huge problem with it. After all, it isn't unheard of to have turkish and egyptian music in the same set so at least you would match part of the time!

I'm a Sim girl through and through! I own some pharonics but the first sets I grab for are almost always my Sims. Fit like a glove and audiences don't seem to care whether it's Egyptian or Turkish.

Meh. The "rules" are highly overrated, you know?
I'm seeing kind of a switch back to fringe and opulence, only in a slightly more streamlined form. Bellas and Sims really do give you the best of both worlds - crazy amounts of detail with fashion-forward silhouettes. Tons of Egyptian-style dancers wear them.
And not even my "anorexic" (*shudder* I hate that term) boobies look good in the new Dina style bras. They only seem to flatter a minority of dancers.
To each their own. I'm a firm believer that you dance best when you're wearing a costume that makes you feel confident.

i have a costume w/the 'dina' cups i believe, love it. very flattering.
and i love the sparkliness of turkish designer costumes but at the same time i love the mystery some of the egyptian cossies have..u can't always tell who designed them..u can spot a bella or sim a mile away tho
i'm usually not attracted to something very simple tho..i've only seen a handful of sahars that i love and those are in the $1000 range and obviously adorned with a bunch of stuff
i just don't see myself spending a crapload of $$ for something that would need an extra $100 or so to make it sparkle!
this one, i looooove tho. simple yet different at the same time:

i'm tempted to contact hanan to recreate this, yet with more colorful stones on the stomach band and skirt ;)Last edited by ZanaRaqs; 06-29-2009 at 10:09 PM.
