    Skirt length

Ok, I just bought Mirabai's snakeskin bella... So my question is, what is too short for a straight skirt as opposed to chiffon. I like my chiffon skirts to touch the floor, if possible, but my straight skirts to be a bit shorter.

I normally wear a 36" skirt...this one is about 34 1/2 or 35" and the front panel hits my ankle right where it joins my foot. So in the back it hits my ankle right above the heel.

I think that is okay for a straight panel skirt...do you all? I have an arabesque skirt (front straight panel, back full), it comes to the floor.

Just curious. I'd like to keep this costume and I'm looking for opinions.

for my straight style/lycra type skirts i like to cover the back of my ankles..so that means around 39-40" lenght. for chiffon or other flowy type skirts, i don't mind it showing a bit so 37-38". if u dance in heels then it doesn't matter all that much anyway, i doubt anyone would notice unless it's hitting ur calf lol

Do you have any pics? Can you add a small ruffle? I like my straight skirts to be a bit shorter, but I'm picky about too short. And sadly my imagination is not working today so I can't picture where the skirt is stopping.

I'm of a mixed opinion on this. I love my skirts to be long but then I worry about stepping on them. So when I dance in shorter skirts it's definitely easier to move around, but then when I see pictures, I say OMG, I'm wearing floods!!!

Not yet...but I'll have pics soon of the bottom & I'll post for opinions. I'm not sure about adding a ruffle...this is a snakeskin print so it would look weird.

I usually like my straight skirts to touch the floor in the back and skim the tops of my feet in the front. I have a straight skirt that hits just below the ankle and just think it looks odd.

If the skirt is too short, you know who's been eyeing that costume. I'd gladly take that baby off your hands if it doesn't work ..g.:

    Re: Skirt length

Seems I like my skirts shorter than many here, I like them just above the tops of my feet when I'm standing normally, to the tops of my feet at the very longest. My thinking is that I mostly dance with my knees bent, and I don't want them puddling on the floor getting dirty or tripping me. The main place I dance in has a large patio area on the boardwalk that often has wet spots on the floor (that can ruin colored sequins, I've learned), which is a factor for me. At any rate, I think "rules" about hemlines are pretty much a thing of the past- I say wear what is practical and makes you feel good.

I took pics last night then didn't manage to load them up online, too busy. I asked my hubby & he said it was not too short. If it were a "daily wear" dress, I'd say it was perfect length. I think I will wear it once, see how I feel in it, and if I'm still worried over the length I may be sending you a pm, Satin ;-)

For my own taste, I would find that to be too short. How do you feel in it? That's what is most important.

Still undecided. Any ideas on how I might add an inch or 2 of length that would blend in?

Hhhmmm.... I doubt you'd ever find an exact match to that fabric. It looks like the accents are silver or maybe gunmetal. Perhaps you can find a wide piece of ribbon to sew to the bottom that would match it or compliment it.

The other thing I've seen done before with skirts that are too short is to wear another skirt underneath. That may not look right with a form fitting straight skirt, though. It might be worth a try if you've already got something on hand that matches. Maybe black?

I think it's that critical bit too short...and if it looks a skootch too short when standing it will definitely look too short in motion!

Yeah, unfortunately I don't think an underskirt would work, especially with the cutouts. *sigh*

Too short barefoot, not too short with fabulous dance shoes.
I could see adding a wee bit of a chiffon pannel at the bottom, not a full ruffled but a bit ruffled.
