    milk intolerance? helped by lactaid

Not sure I'd call it a milk allergy..I don't drink milk but consume plenty of cheese, yogurt (daily) ice cream, etc

I noticed when I cut out creamer (coffee) ..just the creamer not the coffee..and other milk products , for about a week, I did not have the enormous morning bloat tummy that happens after morning coffee and breakfast

so could this be an intolerance and not an allergy? would Lactaid help take care of the bloat ?

I fart a lot with milk products

It could be both. I am both lactose intolerant and allergic, and I found out using a blood allergy test. I got mine from my chiropractor, and it gave me a lot of valuable information about what foods I should be avoiding.

However, if you don't want to go through all that, you could always give the lactaid a spin and try it.

One other thing, a lot of yogurts these days are lactose free, so you could always check and see if eating a lactose free yogurt upsets your stomach.

I say stop eating milk products. I'm lactose intolerant and used to suffer thru all of that. One day I just said duh if my body can't process milk maybe I should give it up.

There are soy yogurts, milk, ice cream, butter, etc. Granted they don't taste as good but you won't be sick either.

As a Vegan I just believe that we shouldn't eat something made for cows anyway. Cows milk is for baby calves to double and triple in weight over a short amount of time. They also have 4 stomachs to our one. Just like mothers milk is best for babies, cows milk is best for calves. So we wouldn't feed human milk to a baby calf right? So why do we drink cows milk.

    Just my opinion.

My BFF, her husband and my daughter all can't handle milk products. I ended up switching my daughter to all soy-based products. My friends take lactaid, but you may sometimes forget it. I know it has helped switching her diet. She no longer bloats, has tummy pain or gets rashes like she used to.

So, try soy milk, cheeses and non-dairy creamers and such.

Also remember that all that soy has alot of estrogen so it might be a good idea to try other types too like rice milk or nut based products.

I use lactaide - it has "saved my life". I love, love, love, love milk - but even with the lactaide I only drink it on occasion, no longer eat cereal, etc, etc. It isn't a panacea - if I eat/drink too much diary even with lactaide, I have problems. Without it, I have problems even with one cup of yogurt.

What problems? Feels like there's 5 holes in my stomach, rather bad pain! Lactaide and occasional moderate amounts of dairy are tolerable, anything more isn't. I had 2 bowls of ice cream the other day - forgot the lactaide - I'm still hurting...

Honestly, I don't know if milk causes that problem on me or not...
