    Applying False Eyelashes

    Help! I have never really worn false eyelashes, but a couple of the girls in my troupe wear them and Id like to give them a go?? Ive never worn them because I am blessed with naturally long lashes. Are there any special tricks or tips to putting these things on???

    Any advice would be great!!! Thanks gals!!

    I try the "Azhia way" and it works for me!

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6fgBTRwJ21M]YouTube - Technique 21: False Lashes, Full Band[/ame]

    Other links on youtube:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3sH2esoZFg&feature=fvst]YouTube - OxfordJasmine's Pro False Lashes Application Tutorial[/ame]

    BTW I got the applicator clip but don't use it anymore.

    But then, practice, practice, practice, practice and practice, you will become a pro with false lashes!

    Watch that clip. Azhia won't lead you wrong! My one piece of advice is to not use too much glue. That is a common beginner mistake.

    Even though you are lucky to have naturally long lashes I am glad to hear that you are embracing the inimitable glory of fake lashes. Even the longest lashes in the world can't hold a candle to the faux ability to project from the stage or their ability to show up on camera.

    I also notice that my makeup removal process is much easier with false lashes because I don't have as much mascara to take off.

    Have fun and happy lash batting!

    What looks cool (for super close up shots, cannot be seen onstage) is if you coat your natural lashes with black mascara and then affix a pair of spikey (lots of space in between the lashes) ones that are hot pink, blue, or other cool color. You'll have a stripe effect!

    I would say to stay away from rhinestone-encrusted or metallic lashes. They just make your eyes look like they're covered in schmutz.

    Yup! False eyelashes + clip-on hair = dreary to fabulous in under 2 minutes!

    Add foundation and lipstick and you can be out the door if necessaary.

    oooooh, that sounds purty! I will have to try that. Stripey lashes! I do like metallic lashes for drag queeny costume stuff. I layer them with black lashes (black lashes on bottom then metallic lashes on top). This way I still get the shading of the black lashes and get a flash of color and metal when I look down or blink. JUST metallic lashes don't do it for me.

    Re: Applying False Eyelashes

    Okay so due to my theater days I have been applying lashes for the last 18 years. Here's what I do

    1. Apply a thin coat of mascara on your natural lashes.

    2. Trim lashes if needed to match length of your lash line.

    3. Apply a thin line of glue along the false lash line.

    4. - WAIT!!!!! Wait 30 to 45 seconds for the glue to become tacky - this is so important! If you try to apply the lasehs right away after applying the glue, they can slide all over and get glue everywhere.

    5. Grip the inside of the lash with tweezers and the outside of the lash with your fingers, Gently set them on top of your natural lash line, Use the back of the tweezers to press them into place if needed.

    6. If you like apply another coat of mascara for extra blending(of your real lashes and false lashes together) length and thickening.

    The exception to this is Sa'diyya of Dallas. That woman has perfected the wearing of rhinestone lashes - they always look FAB on her!

    Me, my eyes are downturned, so I have to be careful not to get the Miss Piggy look with my falsies.

    Remember to flex your lashes when you get them and trim if necessary. While these sound like no brainers, doing them can save a lot of head aches!

    And for large rooms, don't be afraid to do two pair!

    I've never worn two pair at once. I'm dying to try it, though!

    Actually, I'm due for a day of full make-up/hair freakout - I've been watching a lot of youtube vids and am dying to try some new techniques and looks!

    I wear a pair and a half most often...cut down a pair that's seen better days and use it at the outer ends over a full strip. And I've seen quite a few lashes with rhinestone strips on top that look totally fab on stage.

    My troupe mate bought a pair at Sephora with a thin glitter strip at the lashline, they look fantastic. Glam but not crazy.

    Wow, very helpful thread - thanks ladies! I LOVE false lashes, but cannot apply them for love nor money so ended up getting those natural eyelash extensions. They look fabulous, but cost a fortune and was about to give them up as can no longer afford. So will be trying out all your tips! (Can't wait for Azhia's DVD to arrive now!)

    Thanks!

    I would add: apply liquid eyeliner (or eyeliner of your choice) before applying your lashes.

    Re: Applying False Eyelashes

    I cut a third off of the outer edge and wear just that. Easier to apply. But for the more dramatic looks, I'll wear the other remaining two-thirds as a whole lash--I guess my eyes are pretty small....

    As well as after to hide the lash band and any glue residue (whether clear drying or black)!

    thanks tahira - I always end up getting glue all over my eyeshadow but seemed too fiddly to do it afterwards! Obviously getting the glue bit wrong as I can see in the vid.

    monsoon - my copy arrived this morning and i have watched it all, it's well worth the investment. Azhia clearly is a proper MUA and knows her stuff :-)

    If you have long lashes and they are naturally curly, it's almost impossible to put them on. I have this <ahem> "problem" and can never get them to stay because the curl just pops them off.

    So I just use my own. Now isn't that the saddest most diva-ish problem you have heard so far today??? ,r:;

    You can try the singles! They'll give an extra oomf and interesting texture because they're not super curly but can add some long bits to your own curly lashes. You're a curly girl lash-wise!
