Thread: Covering/Embellishing a Front Closure Bra

I have several projects lined up and I was wondering if anyone has used a front closure bra as a base for any costumes? I have a vintage costume and that is how it was designed yet I have not seen others. Good or Bad idea?

I'm not sure about a front closure as being so structurally sound. If your breasts get smooshed together (floor work, shoulder shimmies, avoiding an overzealous tipper) you may pop the closure and the bra will open from the front. The best bra closures I have seen are where the back strap connects into the side of one of the cups for closure. But other may have different opinions.

I have a vintage costume built as a front closure bra. It is extremely sturdy and the hooks are embedded inside the cop on one side. The bra as an impressive amount of reinforcement in there. It holds my DDs fine for all manner of performance and is one of my favorites. I have never again come across one like it or been brave enough to try to copy it to make a new one....though maybe I should get with it. LOL I think it helps that it is a halter style as well.

I know one of the more well endowed ladies in my area makes her bras with front closures and she's never had a "wardrobe malfunction" that I'm aware of. I've never looked at it close enough to see how she did it. I know she uses a bra base from Walmart. I suspect it would be a little trickier to get the fit right, but not impossible.

I would think a pretty pin/brooch would cover the closure well and perhaps provide additional security.

I'd be afraid of wardbrobe malfunctions, has happened on too many occassions. Good luck

I have one- no pictures from after revamp, but shall try get a snap if you would like.

The original hook did worry me, as it seems fragile- although it has held up under much onslaught, so it is an illusion.

I chose, though, to put in 'safeguards'- there are 2 other closures now I added on. Wouldn't say they would hold under great pressure, but the WILL keep it closed whilst a gracious exit is made :)
I found it a faff, though, as every 'continuous' line across the cups had to break in the middle, then figue out how to get them to join while looking continuous. Wouldn't go for the style again.

My one instructor used to swear by them as a foil for anyone who tries to flick open the back of your bra. Think this might have been bad behaviour from a previous age- I have never had anyone near enough to try, let alone an attempt!

Shahla, I will check out Walmart. I am also endowed -34DD. The larger bras tend to be harder to find and more $$. I went to a bra shop last night and didn't purchase because the thought of spending $60 on a bra I was going to hack irked me.

I think I will try this project next..... I really dislike putting a costume bra on the standard way (hook in front and swing around) esp when they are heavy or have sharp embellishents.

I'm pretty sure the brand my friend used to pick up at Walmart was made by "Sweet Nothings". I don't know the particular model, though. I know she's at least a DD.

I have a couple of vintage costumes which are front closure. Only one of which I have ever had a problem with. I did change one to a swimsuit hook as opposed to a coat hook simply because I was much more comfortable with that.
