Practicing wraparound turns on carpet
My house is carpeted, no hardwood floors. I want to practice my turns, but it's hard to get the right feel for it when the floor has carpet on it. I've thought of using a yoga mat or some kind of mat to make the floor a little slicker. Anyone have any suggestions, besides ripping up the carpet?

Hmmm my yoga mat makes everything more sticky--in the meantime maybe wear socks or dance shoes like ballet slippers with suede so you will be able to turn more easily? Or maybe there is a removeable dance floor your could eventually invest in? Something that could sit on top of your carpet and be rigid enough not to sink down in the pile in case your carpeting is very squishy--that might throw you off balance.

I do these on carpet all the time withou a problem. You might try wearing socks or better yet, knee high stockings. The main thing is to turn your leg before putting weight on it so that you don't torque your knees. Which is good regardless of what surface you are on.
For a wraparound turn I prep with leg first on ball, transfer half weight to that foot, pivot on the balls of both feet.
I imagine you could rub some Monistat Anit-Chafing gel on the balls of your feet. See the threads on makeup primers! It is silicone gel.
But if this doesn't work for you go to Lowes or Home Depot and by a remnant piece of vinyl flooring. They come rolled up and a 4 x 6 ft piece will probably be $15 or so.

Yes, I was going to say the same as Souzan, go buy/scrounge a bit of lino, just like breakdancers do!
Do you even have carpet in the kitchen and bathroom? I guess if you're tight on space it's not so easy to practise in there anyway.

Ballet slippers always get me through turns on carpet. Nothing else works as well for me.

I don't mean to be a shameless self promoter here, but a lot of ladies on Bhuz have gotten a pair of my ballroom shoes made with street soles for the purpose of dancing on all the varieties of floors that we encounter, including carpet. Suede will tend to grip the carpet a little bit, but the street sole is smoother and acts a bit more slick on the carpet. I have a thread in the Retail Swap Meet for more info, or you can go to the link in my signature.
