False Eyelashes?
Finally, after several years of trying to figure out how to get them on and getting them to stay on, I got them on! Hubby and I went to a metal concert last week-end and they stayed on all evening - I was so proud of myself for accomplishing this feat (I'm telling ya, I have spent years off/on messing around with these things!)! The ones that I put on were okay but I guess I was looking for something a little more "flashy" - my hubby didn't even realize that I had them on until I told him. Which now leads me to this question...are there any particular favorite styles/brands to use? I figure that I will have to experiment, but some of you may have some guidance or advice.

MAC #34's are my go-to lashes for performances. Tried so many other falsies, but nothing compares to these.
They're made of light, wispy lashes (if you look closely, it's a mix of black and auburn), but they dramatically swoop up and out at the corners. I love them because they really brighten and open up your eyes!

Re: False Eyelashes?
I have noticed a definite ease of use difference between human and synthetic. I used to think it would also take me 10 minutes to glue the dang things on, but I picked up a human hair pair (about 5 bucks at Walgreens) and it was suddenly so easy!
Of course, I also glue them to my actual eyelid (where eyeliner goes) vs. putting them on the lashes (how do you do this without glue in the eye!) which may account for my difficulties.

Hi Nikki,
Azhia has a video clip from her make up DVD (Great DVD BTW!)
Let the glue get tacky, before putting them on.
Here's a link to a past thread, with the video in it. :-)

Re: False Eyelashes?
It Stays! works with false lashes! (Thanks to Caasious for this glue recommendation).
No latex, no odor, comes off with water. Because of this, however, if you tend to sweat a lot in your eye, lashes may come off. But it does work. I put them on and did KenpoX and not until I splashed my face with water (I forgot I had them on) did they come off.
Application is even easier with It Stays:
I rolled a bit of the adhesive on my hand and then touched the lash band to my hand to pick up the glue. Dab, dab, dab, to make sure the lash band had enough glue on it, and apply to lash line as normal.
It's clear, too, so no gooky stuff.

Re: False Eyelashes?
Thanks for the tip about It Stays!, Azhia. I tried false lashes for the first time last night, which I applied with Duo adhesive. Sadly, after 2-3 hours, my sensitive eyes were getting bloodshot and irritated, and I had to take the lashes off. Hopefully I have better luck with It Stays! I guess even if it doesn't work with my lashes, I'll at least be able to use it on my clothes, so not all will be lost. :)

Re: False Eyelashes?
I put them at the juncture where the lash and eyelid meet, and at the same angle as the natural lashes, so both, actually.

Re: False Eyelashes?
Thanks for the It Stays tip. I just got back from the dermo because I think I'm developing a latex allergy. I can't wear lashes without several days of irritated lids afterward. I'll have to try how they work with sweat. I tend to sweat more in the summer months (for obvious reasons), so maybe I'll have to use it in the winter only.

Re: False Eyelashes?
what lash style works for you will totally depend on the shape and size of your eyes. for me and most of the gals in my troupe, we really like the ardell "demi wispies" lashes. they're not as long (inner corner to outer corner) as some lash strips, so you don't have to be so exact about getting them in just the right place. and they're just fake enough looking - not so natural that you can't see them so why bother, and not too clownish.
I personally prefer synthetic lashes because my face & eyelids get pretty sweaty when I dance and the human hair ones will clump on me.
I like duo lash glue. it comes right off with the lashes, and any residue comes off easily with cold cream or oily eye makeup remover.
I learned from a drag queen to put the lashes on in a more upright position (more like a tiara than a visor - make sense?). I think it looks great. try it once to see if it works for you.

Re: False Eyelashes?
My false lashes don't have mascara on them. I mascara beforehand and then apply lashes. With proper application, they should look well-integrated into the natural lash, so no need to reapply mascara. In the event that you do need to reapply, only do so to the natural lashes (underneath the false lash) so that no mascara actually gets on the false lash.
This is how mine last for years.

Re: False Eyelashes?
This is why I can not put the lashes on my natural lashes at all-even letting the glue dry does not seem to make a difference, I always feel the glue after a bit. Plus, I wear contacts, so they will "hold" any kind of irritant in the eye, especially glue residue. I am able to apply lashes to the very base of my eye with no problems though-basically where you put eyeliner on your top lid. It takes some practice to get it just right, so there is no visible gap between the lashes and lid, but it definitely worth it! Otherwise there is no way I could do the eyelash thing.

Re: False Eyelashes?
Just curious, do any of you wear false lashes daily?
How about applying eyeliner first, then lashes, then more eyeliner to help it look more integrated? I'm thinking this would fill in any tiny gaps like Nikki is talking about.

Re: False Eyelashes?
I just got some from this website. Mine are the diva ones, they're fun, sparkly and I like the glue - they stay on better than the other stuff I've used, but they certainly aren't for everyday. Health/Beauty : UbuyEZ, The Easy Place To Shop

I just wanted to report back on an eyelash breakthrough - last night was my first time to wear THREE sets of lashes!!!!! It was a bit over the top (especially the ultra-long, glitter-tipped third set), but it was Halloween...
No pictures yet, but hopefully I'll get my hands on some that an amateur photographer acquaintance of mine was taking last night.
