If I make fan veils with a silk length total of five feet long, do you also want an extra dyed to match piece to cover the other side of the fan?
(this is for do it yourselfers who buy the staves..I'm just dyeing the silk right now)
??
thanks!
what size would you like the extra piece to be? what is the most commonly used size for fan staves?

Re: if i make fan veils 5 feet long
Good question ..g.:
The staves on my largest fan are 12 inches, but I guess to allow for some silk 'flutter' (and a bit of scissors error) ...hmm....probably a 16 inch length?
Anyone else got a tape measure handy.....I'm sure the different sources of fan veils will vary a bit .w.: ?

Re: if i make fan veils 5 feet long
thanks for posting..is 12 inch the standard? I don't mind overcompensating (for scissor error :) ..I'm certainly not going to charge for dyeing one extra small piece, it can be done at the same time..if it's only 12 to 16 inches it's no biggie, especially since i won't have to handle the glue gun ..g.:
well..made three pairs of veils to be glued to fans yesterday..we'll see what happens..they should be dry later today..they are experiment pieces. I might get off my butt and go to Chinatown, they sell smaller bamboo fans there and I might try glue-ing my own pair for photos and just to see how it all works out.
They sell these really big fans at the swap meet, they have printed designs on them so it's not likely they could be used for dance but i'd like to attach a wider longer piece of silk to one and use it as a large silk fan veil piece..just cuz
