Altering Great Loop Belt
I have two great loop belts, and I am wondering how most people have altered them. Did you use hooks on both sides? or did you sew one side down?
Thanks!

Re: Altering Great Loop Belt
I left mine in 2 pieces. The hooks on the front section were all the way at the ends so I didn't move those and just moved the bars on the back part of the belt to where I needed them. But I've had other belts that were sewn down on one side, and from the perspective of when you're putting the belt on I think it's a little faster and easier having it in one piece.
Sorry that probably didn't help in your decision-making at all, did it! ,r:;

Sewn down on the right hip. Left hip has hooks. One less thing to worry about coming undone!

Sew down right hip, big snaps on left.

I sew mine on one side too. With heavy duty thread doubled over and a big needle, going all the way through all layers of both sides.
The other side has hooks at the edge and two giant snaps behind those in the overlap. All hooks, hook bars, and snaps are also sewed through all layers of the side they are on.

I leave mine open on both sides. Each side has three different bars for the hooks to hook into, to allow for weight fluctuations and for skirts of different thicknesses (circle skirts are bulkier than straight skirts, and two skirts or a skirt and harem pants are bulkier still). That way the design stays symmetrical.

I didn't sew it down - just added safety pins to one side - big ones. I left them there once I got it adjusted properly. When I got pregnant, my hips grew so much that I was thankful I never sewed it down - just took out the safety pins and it fit.
