    Can you post some pictures of yourself? I like all of the costumes you posted but they are all different folkloric style costumes. Maybe we can find something that will work..

    Hi,
    I assume that's you in your av? If so you look fine, are you sure they didn't just catch you at an flattering angle?

    Audie, you're gorgeous in that pic!!!
    Anyhoo, just wanted to say that of the 3 costumes you linked in your original post, I like the idea of you wearing that 3rd Eman Zaki style (I agree that ruffles will not help our cause--I drown in them too being about the same height as you:))--it looks elegantly sleek.

    In all the time I've been dancing only I have (or have ever had) one costume that costume that *I like *feel comfortable in AND *look good in. It's a folkloric beladi dress that I don't have an opportunity to wear too often.

    I know what looks good on me in street wear. But, I don't know how to translate that into a costume -nor where to find one if I did.
    I like bling-gy costumes with clean lines and not a lot of extra stuff going on. I don't mind showing my legs, arms or cleavage. It's just the middle part that needs a continuous covering, either sheer or solid.
    Something like this with fewer ruffles: Belly Dance Store.com: gallery (Mumtaz 4091) or
    rip off the ruffles and add a matching belt to this: Belly Dance Store.com: gallery
    I love this, but not sure if it would be too ??? on me: Belly Dance Store.com: gallery

    Any ideas?
    Do you dance barefoot or in heels? I personally like the purple Eman BUT doubt that bra would contain the girls..l;,

    Thought of something else, stemming from your av. You look good but the only thing I'd change would be stuff dangling from the bra all the way round. I think visually it closes the gap too much between bra and belt.

    I think a single centre dangle would be fine
    Belly Dance Store.com: gallery

    this no, too much dangling and shortening your waist.

    Belly Dance Store.com: gallery
    dress that covers the belly.

    Of course it's only my opinion.

    Actually, I think you look quite good in this pic! If you want to reduce the look of your middle as well as add length there, you did good with the crossover straps, because they also give the illusion of a longer waist.

    I have a very short waist with long arms and legs. My hips are round too, or because of my short waist, they look round. Because of this, I never wear anything across the middle, but if I have to, I go more for the length and not the width. L. Rose Design also has skirts that give the illusion of fullness without being full, mostly their trumpet skirts. If I do wear a full skirt, I make sure my belt covers most of the hips so the flaring doesn't start until my thigh area.

    Whatever you choose for a coverup for the middle, I would make sure it clings to your body; anything blousy is only going to make that area look shorter. And when that is a problem spot in your opinion, you want to elongate that area as much as possible.

    I don't know if I helped. . .

    oh you loook totally fabulous in that pic girl!

    If you feel your tummy is not toned enough - I think you already have the perfect solution in that pic: a high-cut skirt covering the front of the belly in a triangle shape with that "waist belt".
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1Yrq3J372U]YouTube - Bellydance superstars 6 - Egyptian nights[/ame]

    Sonia is wearing one here, at
    I think you could totally wear this style!

    Else dress does not inevitably mean "folkloric".
    Have you checked out Amani?

    She's wearing gorgeous modest costumes.

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkGb3RmHViI]YouTube - belly dance amani from lebanon[/ame]

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VihL5gcXMA4]YouTube - Amani[/ame]

    You could totally wear those too, even if you look fine the way you are I guess if you feel better covered go for it! Actually many Arab dancers prefer to dance this way, yet much of the demands by TV shows or restaurants are for dancers to be very sexy. Not all would wear the bedleh outfit if they were given a choice. And to me it seems the more famous Amani got the more she wore lovely dresses covering her, despite her being perfectly slender. So I guess it really is for modesty reasons, and to me it says also respect for the dance.
    While I do not think uncovered dancers are disrespectful, I do think coverage makes the dance be at the centre of attention, not the dancers curves.

    Re: Costuming Help Desperately Needed

    why would people give you bad reviews on the costume? because it is no typcial bellydance costume?
    I think we are talking about Dina in that gorgeous knee length simple summer dress right?
    I think in a Mideastern TV show you might get away with a lot more costume wise. After all many famous bellydancers in movie scenes wore street clothes.. but audiences outside the Mideast are probably disappointed when "regular" ballroom style dresses are worn. it s not quite the same magic I guess.

    What about a Persian style dream ;)
    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFrCaSDpFMc]YouTube - Bellydance[/ame]

    very exotic for audiences I guess.
    Although I do think dancing a full performance in this one might get a little hot..

    Audie! Love the white dress. It looks so good on you. I can just imagine what the show was like.

    About your costuming issue, I've found you always look great in a straight brightly colored skirt, no extra poof or flounce.

    I like the Mumtaz brown dress, especially after seeing you rock the white dress. However, I would be concerned with the ruffle that hits right at the hip. That could be detrimental.

    I think the silver dress looks lovely on you! May I suggest (as I noticed this from your photo in orange) that you stick to longer skirts, but perhaps totally rock a high slit cause you have kick ass legs!

    I would also like to see you in L.Rose trumpet skirts or skirts that hug your curves and flare out below or at the knee...and I think a skirt like that with a side slit to show off your legs would be faaaaab.
