Have you tried a new product? Thumbs up or down? Summer 2009

I learned SO much from your posts on our previous thread about trying new products - http://www.bhuz.com/forum/fitness-be...s-up-down.html.

So, any new "must have" products that have made it into your beauty routine?

I know there are some Bhuzzers who have beauty blogs - please post links here! Or if there's a blog or video that is your go-to for tips, I'd love to know about it.

I don't know if this is new, but I had my first facial this spring and was talked into purchasing this cleanser:

Image Skincare - Face Skin Care Products Facial Cleanser Exfoliator Beauty Skin Care Toner

I have oily skin and it really helps keep the occasional breakouts that I sometimes get in check. Skin looks radiant. This is a product that has really worked for me.

I use it every other day, otherwise it's a little drying. But it's worth the money and it's paraben free!

I bought and tried that Smooth Away stuff that is seen on TV adverts. The product is like a little pad and you are supposed to be able to buff away the hair on your legs, arms, upper lip, even bikini line hairs.

Tried it on my legs and it definitely did NOT work. Don't waste your $$.

I'm LOVING Rimmel "Glam'Eyes" mascara. Super chunky volume AND separation. Does not appear to smudge. I am a contact lens wearer, too.

I'm also very much digging anything and everything I've tried thus far from Dermalogica personally and professionally. Really really nice quality and effective skin care.

100 % Pure Body Scrub, Lotion, and Body wash.

Woah! let me tell you this stuff rocks! When you use the Body scrub it is so moisturizing that it wasn't even necessary to lotion. Perfect for dry skin or the winter time.

I was going to kill SO when he used 1/2 the jar one day! lmao! He didn't know that you only need a little for maximum results. That stuff costs $22 for the jar along. Good for the mens too, the Coconut doesn't smell too girly in his opinion.

Not sure where else to get it, but I purchased mine through Ulta. Vegan friendly and no animal testing! Free shipping always.

Let me nay to the Covergirl Lash Blast Waterproof Mascara. Doesn't make your lashes big and it doesn't come off, lmao! Understandable that is Waterproof, but geez I can get off other Waterproof Mascaras.

I have a friend who swears by it, she is a toe-headed blond, so she really like her brush to be thick. She probably has long eyelashes, you just can't see them with out makeup.

Yay, to ULTA nail polish. I have a denim/purple nail polish. It stays on for two weeks. I do a pedi myself once a week, but I don't have to remove their nail polish for that long! I love this ish! Not expensive either.

This is a big Too Faced rant, lmao!

Yay and Nay to Too Faced Lash Injection Mascara. It made my lashes so full, but I think it made some of my eyelashes fall out??? It doesn't come in Waterproof.

Nay to Too Faced Mirror Mirror Lipgloss. Yuck, its scent is like cat spray and if you don't have a cat that has ever sprayed. It smells a little like pee pee. lmao! I had to confirm with a friend and my mother who were both like, gross! Needless to say I wrote them a letter, but they didn't respond.

Yay, to Too Faced Liquif-eye Shadow collection. I needed something fast and this set is really cute. Stays on long and lets you sample the colors before you buy. It comes with a liquid eyeliner tube so you can use them as liner. Great for travel too!

Yay to AVON Smooth Mineral Makeup.

I don't wear makeup everyday and needed something for those in between days. After hitting thirty and having a child my skin became blotchy and red in some areas. Works great for minimal coverage and it didn't break the bank. Although, my Too Faced purchased did, lmao!

Wew, lol I think I am done. I lived right next to an ULTA in AZ, so I was there often. l

I tried this, too. Mixed opinion. I used it on my legs and underarms. On my legs, it really does take the hair off- my legs have NEVER been that smooth. However, the hair on your legs has to already be SUPER short for it to work. Like, if I shave early in the day and use it before I go to a gig in the evening (same day). If I shave one day and use it the next morning, it'll still work. Any longer than that and nope- doesn't work.

For my underarms, it took off skin and burned for a couple of days. Bad. Really hurt, and still had underarm hair. But the skin hurt too badly to shave.

I still use it occasionally for my legs, but nothing else, and I still shave 90% of the time.

The "Cook Yourself Thin" TV show, website, recipes, and cookbook are all AWESOME! I just received the cookbook as a gift, and in a few short months I have made several of the recipes over 10 times! My favorites are the Ultimate Chicken Sausage Pizza and the Mint Chocolate Cupcakes.

The whole concept is that, after cooking with these recipes for 6 weeks or less, you will drop a dress size. These slimmed-down recipes taste just as good (if not better!) than their original counterparts, and I have lost 2 lbs using this cookbook so far!

I'm including the links to the Pizza recipe, as well as the cupcakes:

Thanks for the review. I was interested in this product, but will not buy.

I am trying no!no! hair burner right now. Doesn't give a super close cut, but it doesn't really claim to anyway. From what I gather, its main duty is to lower hair regrowth over time. I am on week two and will report back after a while. So far, it is easy to use once you get past the smell of you hair burning. I am so lazy and hate shaving so if this does what it is supposed to do, I'll be a happy girl.

Are you the type who likes to give yourself rug burn just for ha-ha's? If so, I think this is just the right hair removal product for you! .w.:

not a new product, but i recently tried hip gel liner (in the pot). not impressed. not smudge proof, not sweat proof. thought it might be a lower cost alternative to mac gel liner in the pot. it isn't :( don't recommend for dancing unless you like raccoons a lot.

tried mac paint pot shadow base in ocre (cause i'm really pale). love it! shadow doesn't crease or budge. even through 3 shows back to back. really a great product and i highly recommend it. its even a good base for using wet shadows.

tried mac pigment in blonde gold. really like it as a soft blending color between the light under the brow bone and the 2 shades of brown in the crease. i use it to blend the lighter brown into the lightest beige under my brow bone. it makes that 1940's movie star glimmer. very pretty.

    Nivea Self Tanner

This one is suppose to be a firming one, but um it doesn't firm and it does not add color. Been using it for weeks and not a dang thing is happening. I know there is no cure for cellulite, but it was worth a shot.

I have better luck with the AVON one, but it really smells funky.

I'm about to replace all my foundations to Face Atelier Ultra Foundation and acquiring my first set of Japonesque brushes. *excited*

    You lucky faces, you!!

If I remember to, I will also experiment with using "It Stays!" non-latex, roll-on adhesive for false lashes. Will wear them while doing P90X Kenpo. Maybe since it's warmer I'll actually perspire to test their durability. Simultaneously, I am experimenting on my partner water-based airbrush makeup on top of silicone foundation with a spritz of fixative on top to see if it stays (he does tend to perspire more than I). Researching staying power for a yoga video shoot. Will report...

I tried Neutrogena Healthy Volume Waterproof mascara recently. Sure, it's waterproof - only after it comes off my eyelashes and sticks to my skin!

My husband also bought me some Neutrogena Ultimate Sport SPF 70 sublock because I'm a vampire. I wore it to an amusement park and didn't get burned at all! It's also non-condemic, which I need as well. The only problem with it was my husband started to sweat it off near the end of the day and some ran into his eye.

After disliking Urban Decay's Primer Potion I switched to Two Faced's Shadow Insurance and I love it! It still won't hold up to spending 3 hours in an un-air conditioned warehouse (at my new job), but it held up beautifully to a late June 12 minute performance that was 7 hours long with the driving and hanging out. My eye shadow still looked good when I got home!

Also, I've been using gel eyeliner for the first time. I picked up the Black Cherry from Aromaleigh, which she says is the same product carried by some conventional make up companies. It's perfect for every day wear, though I have not dance tested it yet. It stays a lot better than my beloved L'oreal liquid liner (which flakes later in the day), and I can get the perfect retro "wing" at the corner of my eyes. I may try Mac's Fluidline next.

Still testing the Lash Blast waterproof. It really does not come off, so I use it only when necessary.

Re: Have you tried a new product? Thumbs up or down? Summer 2009

It Stays! works with false lashes! (Thanks to Caasious for this glue recommendation).

No latex, no odor, comes off with water. Because of this, however, if you tend to sweat a lot in your eye, lashes may come off. But it does work. I put them on and did KenpoX and not until I splashed my face with water (I forgot I had them on) did they come off.

Application is even easier with It Stays:
I rolled a bit of the adhesive on my hand and then touched the lash band to my hand to pick up the glue. Dab, dab, dab, to make sure the lash band had enough glue on it, and apply to lash line as normal.
It's clear, too, so no gooky stuff.

I've been using the Target house brand version of Jergens gradual tanning lotion...works really well, a nice color that doesn't give the fake-tan look (very hard on my ultra-pale skin). It's helped to give me a better overall color, and to fill in spots that sunburns/different straps have kept pale.

Smells a little bit like brown sugar, which is nice...the only downfall is that unlike other lotions, it doesn't seem to completely absorb. If you get hot later in the day, you can feel it seep out a little bit. A little annoying, but worth it

I totally agree! Lash Blast did not make my lashes longer or thicker, and I had the same problem - it totally doesn't come off. Ever. For days. No matter what I do. I think I still have some on from last week!

CVS has been having a ton of buy 1 get 1 free products on sale. Not only that they have been having coupons in the Sunday paper for cosmetics. So I figured I could give it a whirl without breaking the bank. ..g.:

    Revlon Concealer and Highlighter

Love it! Can't wait to get the brush I purchased from Azhia, because my brush is a little to harsh on the undereye. Anywoooo... stays on well and not too greasy. Concealed my undereye area and my red lil' veins under my nose. Where those came from have no clue??? But, it works. I am not sure what to do with the highlighter. I will have to ask Azhia.

Revlon Primer and Mascara Blackest Black Waterproof

Aha! lol... ..l;, After all my mascara purchases I have found one that not only makes my lashes thicker and longer, but comes off as well. Great!!! I love it!!!

Loving Laura Mercier mineral makeup! My skin looks better than it has and no breakouts. :) It also makes it through multiple sets and still looks good. LOVE IT!

Nails: I tried Sally Hansen Insta-Dry nail polish. It dries quickly and not just the sort of dry most quick dry stuff does. Like full cure dry in approx. 5 mins. LOVE IT!

She-Laq from Benefit. I keep falling in love with this one. ;) Last night I used it to set eyeliner almost on the waterline. Crazy hot venue, that stuff kept it all in place. I usually use it on top lid but first time under eye. Fabulous!

Hmm...also love Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer and Kiehls as well.

Craptastic? Revlon matte lipstick in Cocoa. Beautiful colour but every time I've worn it, some kind soul tells me it's on my teeth. I don't have this problem with any of my other lipsticks. Too bad because I really liked the colour.

Oh, and again, another pitch for MAC paintpot in "Groundwork". I have worn it every day since I got it. Smashing for blue eyes as it is brown but with orange tones. Makes blue eyes pop! Great even on it's own and I usually like darker colours but this is a nice light summer look. :)

Oh sheesh, another one...I just bought Cheeky Bronze Mineralize bronzer from MAC. Limited edition but it looks fab too! Browny pink with gold. Looks good on my fair but freckled skin. If you are a redhead with warm skin tone this is for you!!! :-D
