Re: "What are you working on?" August 2009
Maybe somebody saw this Cossie in the Swap Board some months ago - i was not happy with the choli style top and nobody else was in the mood for it also........

So i "pipmped" it a little bit - you cannot see that i took of all the fringes on the skirt to on this pic cause the veil is above but i think the larger changes are noticeable

i added several large rhinestone broches in lilac - some rhinestone trim in lilac and am wearing a skirt in the matching colour beneath so it comes alltogether - now it's beautiful again ,r:;

Re: "What are you working on?" August 2009
I made a belt out of this awesome red moleskin patterned fabric last month, and this past week I made a vest to match.
I used Atira's pattern for the vest. I had never made the vest with sleeves before; all my others are sleeveless. Are they supposed to fit that loosely? I think they look kind of funny on me, but I got a lot of compliments on the vest so I'm not sure!

I have been working on things at a very, very slooooooow pace this summer!
Saw these today and thought if I knew how to do chunky beading, I would SO want to incorporate a penguin, duck, or kitty cat! Glass bead assortment, mixed color/shape/size, approx. 12-35mm. Pkg of 10. - Fire Mountain Gems and Beads

Looks great! I would take the sleeves in a bit though. The sleeves on that pattern run large - I usually make the sleeves two sizes smaller. The pattern didn't run small enough for me to do that, but I just made a new one, roughing in where I thought the smaller size would be. It's a cute pattern and the top looks really nice on you!

Re: "What are you working on?" August 2009
I started from a free pattern on burdastyle.com called alicia or allison (can't remember...). The instructions are nearly non-existant and the measurements wouldn't have worked for my body but one of their members blogged a how to and the pattern was pretty easy to alter. I've blogged about it (including a link to the how-to) on Shiny Shimmy

Re: "What are you working on?" August 2009
Thanks Zana :) Depending how long my obsession with this pattern lasts, I may end up selling some in my etsy store. You can also get the free pattern from Burda Style and sew one up yourself :D I just got a fabric order in and I'm super excited! I'm gonna make one that's red "satin" (spandex) and lace and one that's turquoise with holographic stars and a red bodice insert! :D I've lost my mind...
I'm pretty sure I'm stalling to avoid the scary cutouts I have planned to do for the first time in my 'green monster' belly dance costume... Soo intimidated by the cutouts...

Re: "What are you working on?" August 2009
Oh snap! Wish I'd known before I made it. As you can see, the difference between the sleeve circumference and my arm is pretty substantial. I was worried about making it smaller because I didn't know if that would affect the range of motion that the garment would allow. I cut out the smallest vest size on the pattern, so I guess I'll have to experiment. Did you find that when you made the sleeve smaller, you no longer had to gather it at the top?

Re: "What are you working on?" August 2009
Well, I usually work with stretch velvet or lycra, so if you aren't, I'd measure first before cutting to ensure ease of movement... but I still had to take the sleeves in even with going two sizes smaller with them. I use the second size up on the pattern, so I had to rough in the difference, but it's easy if you follow the guidelines of the other sizes.
Nope - I didn't gather the top of the sleeve at all.

Re: "What are you working on?" August 2009
I'd snug the sleeves in too.
I haven't made that exact vest, but a very similar ghawazee coat out of a non stretch cotton fabric. That pattern had me leave the armpit side of the sleeve disconnected and hemmed and only the top connected to the body of the garment, so when your arm was lifted the sleeve had plenty of give, even though the sleeve was fitted quite snugly. It provided some ventilation as well.
I've also used a choli pattern that provided an additional gusset to provide that extra give needed in a non-stretch fabric, without leaving an opening at all.
So there are two possible approaches to keeping this flexible while snugly fitting a non-stretch fabric sleeve.Last edited by shems; 08-26-2009 at 03:39 PM.

I finished the belt and am almost finished the bra. I just need to add hooks. I finished the lining last night. though I may undo the lining to take away some padding. I will post pics this weekend.

Ooh, very classy! One of my favorites of yours Eshta :D Reminds me of a Shirley Temple for some reason ;) All cherry red and the rhinestones remind me of the soda sparkles, haha. And I doubt I speak for just myself when I say you're not annoying us with pictures- Keep em coming! It's great inspiration for color, style and stick-to-it-iveness :D

Re: "What are you working on?" August 2009
Thanks!
Mostly it'll be finishing up the fixer-uppers, but mid september I hope to start on a commissioned original for Farasha of Japan (who continues to win "Local dancer with most Ozmas in her closet")
The biggest news is I will be getting a dress form...so after a month of hanging...I'll be tackling vintagy skirts.
