Thread: how do you clean the hemlines on your long skirts?

I suppose dark colors won't be too much of a problem but I'm petrified of buying a nice white skirt as I'm sure a restaurant floor will dirty it up pretty quick

any tips?

I'm a costume washer. I don't wash them every time I wear them, but when they need it, I hand wash my costumes. Some nice mild soap (like woolite) and a swish in my sink or bathtub always does the trick.

I have this amazing Orange lycra dress whose hem is in constant need of cleaning. No idea how it gets that dirty! About once every 5th or 6th wearing, I hand wash and spot treat with a gentle detergent and then dry over a towel.

So far, so good.

One of the things which has stopped me from buying a white lycra costume is the fact that every time I see one they are filthy for about the first 2" above the floor.

I soak them in the bath tub with a smidge of detergent. I have done this with light-colored skirts before. I figure if the dirt/water/soap has a reaction with the fabric , I would rather have the whole skirt be the same color than spot treating just the hem and possibly having a two tone skirt.

White is scary. I had a white luxury velvet skirt from L*Rose and just used the washing machine with bleach and Tide. That worked fine.
