    Tribal bellydancer perfumes

I am an absolute scent 'ho, and I was plundering some of my favorite perfume sources and came across this:
Conjure Oils - Conjure Caravan - The Souk

I don't know what 'souk' means, but they're giving these perfumes a tribal slant. Might be worth a sniff.

I kept poking around and found some reviews: Daily Slather • View forum - The Souk

I also remembered this from Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab:
    SCHEREZADE
A master storyteller who possessed unfailing courage and compassion, a sharp, quick wit, and a true understanding of human nature. Saffron and Middle Eastern spices swirled through sensual red musk.

You'll have to scroll way down this page to find it:

How is this tribal exactly? *sigh*
Looks to me like everything is named after classic bellydance stars: Nadia, Samia, Nagwa, Jamila...

What I see here is a sort of olde tyme apothecary theme. That is not "tribal".

Sorry to sound snitty, but I tire of everything with any kind of old circus-y type aesthetic being called tribal.

Say, have you ever tried CB's "I Hate Perfumes"? I'm very interested in their Russian Caravan, Black March, and Winter 1972. The samples are a bit more expensive than the Conjure Oils, which is why I haven't ventured to try them yet.

I have a friend who works at an aromatherapy shop in Baltimore who makes me custom oils in "exotic" mixtures for dance and Pennsic (my fave is ylang ylang, jasmine and sandalwood with a few other hints of things in there as well).

Synthetic perfume oils can give alot of people headaches (me included) but many people have no issues with pure essential oils, so thats something you might also want to consider for performance.

SoBotanical if you want to check them out, they do fantastic custom blends!

I suppose some people just enjoy having fun with it and not taking it seriously all the time. Maybe there's some more serious perfumes out there too.

'Seraglio' is another in that vein from Black Phoenix that sounds heavenly (Sweet almond, Mysor sandalwood, Bulgarian Rose, neroli, nutmeg, clove, orange peel). But be warned: the description is stereotypical and hokey too (maybe worse than the previous ones!):

God, is oriental dance so unfashionable that they have to repackage its roots as "the roots of ATS" for anybody to know what they mean?

    Re: Tribal bellydancer perfumes

I guess so. Presumably BPAL thinks that only tribal dancers would use their oils. It's a shame because it puts me *off*. Where I live tribal and its spinoffs are so mainstream now - as, for that matter, is faux carnival, it all seems so 90s to me - it surprises me that it's still being used as a catch word for "alternative". Especially since a lot of alternative BD has little to nothing to DO with tribal other than liking to use the name.
