Thread: Where to get reasonably priced bedlah for LARGE bra sizes?

So far, I've been able to get away with not owning much in the way of cabaret styled costuming - but I'm coming to realize that I need to find a place that can supply me with cute, well fitting costumes that won't cost me a million dollars or a trip to Egypt (At least not yet, maybe someday!).

I waffle between a size 12 and 14, but the problem is my bra size - I wear a 36 H, and most places don't seem to make anything above a D, or a DD if you're lucky. I am not patient enough with beading to do my own, plus I can't find solid bra cups in my size anyhow.

How on earth would I go about buying something that big? Are there places I can send one of my bras that fit, and they can make me a set from that?

This is why, for years, I've told myself I'd just wait to buy a good bra/belt set AFTER my reduction to a D cup - but every year something happens and it keeps putting that off. In the meantime, I'm holding myself back due to costuming. Any ideas?

My advice is to try stuff on. i am actually an 34 F cup but I wear Egyptian costume bra size 5 or 6 -in Dahlal sizes this is often marked as a C. Now no way am I an ordinary C cup but if I wear the Egyptian bras designed for the larger girls than I look like I'm all boobs from neck to waist-its really a question of proportion, trial and error and good luck.

Hahahah, I already look like boobs from neck to waist - I'm high waisted, and in certain stuff it looks like the bottom of my boobs start at my natural waistline. I have to wear all my bottom half stuff very low to compensate, and often I'm pinning things to a body stocking just to keep from mooning during a long shimmy...

I guess then, how would I find out what size costume bra would fit a size that has a 9 inch difference between under bust and bust?

If you find out, let me know! Four months ago, I ordered a Great Loop from Pharonics, giving my measurements (46H bra size), they accepted the order but sent me a 38dd with longer straps. The company I ordered it through returned it. Two months later, Pharonics decided they couldn't make the bra. So don't waste your time with them.

Bellatrix of BelliPhat on Tribe & Etsey has started making bra bases to order. Also Dyhanis, a California dancer makes costumes. I've bought a couple of her gypsy skirts and a couple of tie top things from her and they're beautiful. She also vends belt/bra bases at events. DHYANIS

Eshta Amar here on Bhuz makes lovely custom costumes. You can check out some of her stuff on the retail thread. They're all very reasonably priced, and since it's custom, you'll get the size you need.

Also, Turquoise International has made custom bedlah for me for many years with great results. turquoise frequently has larger sizes in stock too.

ooooh you guys are so sweet!!! Actually one of my regular clients is an E or F I believe and so I know this issue very well because I have been doing larger bras for a while. So that's easy. The hardest bras to fit are girls who have small rib cages but are still DD or higher. Like 32DD or something like that. Very very hard because the underwires are all too long so you have to compensate by building the cup higher and deeper and then there are these special straps you can do and and and aaaaaaahhhhhh!!! You get the idea =)

Oh, yes, I do get the idea - I was that small around before I had my kids, a 32 F, impossible to fit or find ANYTHING at that time. That was my era right after ballet and before bellydance, in that weird time of finding a dance style that my body felt comfortable doing.

Eshta, I may have to do some talking with you, I like pretty much everything I've seen of yours so far! I also want some opinions on what styles of bedlah would make me look hot and sassy, and not short and frumpy. (though it is hard to hide the whole 5'1" aspect...)

I too need to sing the praises of Eshta Amar. She rocks in the boob department! I have small ones and her bras are the very first (lingere or belly dance bra) that fits me PERFECTLY.

BTW, I think I need to place another order soon.....

Look in the "plus size' section, there are some huge cup sizes there. A couple of months ago there were pages and pages of them, the assortment is dwindling now. But if you don't see anything you like, maybe you can e-mail or call and find out when more will be coming in.

I hear you on the short thing. I am 5 ft 2" on a good day. Everything is a challenge in the costuming dept.
