    costume bras

Either most costume bras are weird shaped or I am. I always seem to get quadro boob. How do I fix this? Any ideas?

it seems to be a question of volume vs. strap tightness. if you go up a cup size and pad to your desired shape and adjust the back /shoulder / neck straps you will have more control over the "squish factor". going up a cup size and padding is not just to increase size, its also a shape control mechanism :)

    Re: costume bras

What confuses me is that I have bought costumes from dancers that are larger than me and they don't seem to have this problem. Or at least they don't mention it or don't look like it in their pictures.

Some bra shaped aren't meant for everyone's breasts. I usually try to buy a bra that is the shape that suits me. I have had to take apart bras and sew it on another one just to have it fit correctly.

Ozma has some posts in the July What You are Working on thread. If you have Facebook she has a blog about everything she redoes.

what is quadro boob? Do you mean snarfblat? That side boob that oozes out over the sides? That's my problem. Lots of side boob. That's why I have to make most of my costumes. Those watermelon shells that come from egypt don't work for me.

Snarfblat...Isn't that from The Little Mermaid? One of my favorite movies as a kids. LOL.

It has a similar ring to it as the "dough flap"...That's the bit that oozes from under the bra. :D

    Re: costume bras

There are five really uncomfortable definitions for snarfblat on urbandictionary.com
    Urban Dictionary: Snarfblat
None of which have to do with side boob overflow. But I'll continue using snarfblat in the bra context cause it perfectly describes it right? Maybe 2 tt's to differentiate it from the other definitions. snarfblatt.

Well, we can always add our own definition to Urban Dictionary. LOL!

Snarfblat? LOL No side oozing. Quadro boob is when the cup cuts across the top of the boob and causes cut cleavage. Am I describing that ok? lol

    Re: costume bras

You are describing it fine. I have the same issue with many commercial bras. Going up a cup size doesn't make any difference, it has to do with the shape and firmness of your breasts.

And I know for me this varies depending on the time of the month. Sometimes not a big deal, others, overflow!

    Re: costume bras

I like the phrase 'underarm side boobage.' It's not as colorful as snarfblatt, but no question what you mean!

I know what you mean by quadraboob. I have that problem sometimes, too, because I'm determined to think I can fit in a C cup bra. Cup size too small = quadraboob.

As far as larger dancers being able to fit in that same cup -- well 'larger' is so relative. A 32D is a smaller breast than a 38C by far. There are so many proportions to consider -- ribcage, back fat, whether the boobs are real or not, how firm/not firm they are, how much of the breast tissue is near the center of the chest vs. how much is around under the arms, etc....

If you're getting quadraboobs, you need deeper cups.

Oh, there's one other trick you can try! Move the shoulder (or halter) straps farther toward the outside of the cup. That tightens the area around the side of the breast and deepens the area toward the center. It's been really effective for me. Try on the bra without the shoulder straps, as if it were strapless, and pull upward on different spots where the shoulder straps could attach and you'll see what I mean.

(conversely, if the cups are standing away from the cleavage and you can see in there, you can try moving the straps inward on the cups.)

    Re: costume bras

overflow is another good word to describe it. it seems the shape and the way the cups are sewn together are my problem. I have a couple costumes that if the straps were placed differently or if the cups were turned just a little that would fix the problem but if I did that it would make the costume lay funny.

    Re: costume bras

honestly it is so hard! I would love to see physically the person I am costuming for. Even if I get to see them one time. Just fitting them hands on one time will make a guaranteed fit. I know it sounds totally weird but if I could see the client in only undies that helps so much. One time this customer of mine sent me pics in her undies - without telling me so I was a little shocked - but I swear it made the fit on her costume perfect because I was able to see her problem areas and rib cage. Made all the difference! In egypt they measure you hands on - literally!
