Red face Trikke VS Randy Ross Stepper to get back in shape

I've been thinking about buying one of these outdoor fitness bikes to get back in shape. I've kind of let myself go in the last 8 months. I'm bored with the same routine and was thinking about one of these bikes. Anybody ever use these or have any feedback. 1 is the Trikke at Trikke.com and the other is a stepper at RandyRossBikes.com

Should I get one of these?

Both of these look super fun. I this the stepper bike looks like a better quad/glute workout & the trikke looks like you'd target your inner & outer thighs and obliques more. My biggest question is where would you ride these? Do you have a nice level bike/fitness path near by? They both seem very conspicuous and awkward for daily fitness unless you live somewhere like Venice Beach, where people roll by on crazy things all the time. Why not just get a regular bike? No gimicks...
Is there a retailer in your area where you could try these out or rent before buying? Maybe Craigslist...

Okay wait. I just watched the Randy Ross Stepper videos.
    1. Nobody is wearing a helmet. That's just stupid and unsafe, even the kids have no head protection & they're riding in the street. Shame, shame.
    2. The stepper is just a good old fashioned bicycle with the seat removed and little skis mounted on the pedals. I think you could get the same workout on a regular bike and just ride with your bum off the seat. The basic adult model starts at $549 and that is just a crazy amount of money for this. I say no to the stepper (even though it does look kind of fun & is an interesting concept).
