Chicago gals, help me find a salon...

...or someone who can make a housecall.

I have two students (one is my daughter) coming up to Lombard (near Oakbrook, Elmhurst) for the competition next Saturday (8/22)

The rest of the girls and I want to hire someone to help them with makeup and hair that morning -- early, like 8am. Neither of them is a pro (although my daughter has to compete in the pro category since she teaches) and neither of them wears much makeup on a daily basis. Normally I'd help them, but I can't be there!

Anyway, Kimahri thought she could put me in touch with someone but that's fallen through and now I only have a week. Anyone know a salon, or a beautician willing to make a morning housecall?

I can't help with Chicago recs, but I think this is a fantastic idea. You have put together an awesome team over there, Lauren! Love the spirit of cohesiveness and support.

Wait, an idea just in case you don't find someone to help in Chicago. Could the two of them have a consultation ASAP with a stylist in your town, then spend a few days after that practicing doing their own/each other's makeup and hair based on those pointers? I've done some quick intros to stage makeup for new performers and find that you can make a huge difference in their level of confidence and polish in even an hour. Also: big fun, especially if you get started on it a few days before the show when it doesn't feel pressured.

Hmmmmm... that's a great idea. If I don't find someone soon, that's what I'll do.

I contacted both of those ladies asking for their contact info... Or, in relation to Zana's suggestion, I can speed-send a DVD to you. ;0)

Thank you Azhia! I just got a response to my Craigslist posting from someone with a fantastic portfolio, I can't wait to talk to her.

Azhia, Zana's post made me think of your DVD, actually. I'm wondering whether I want to buy a copy and share it with some students, order a couple to sell in the studio, or just encourage my students to order their own copies online.

Did I say? I meant to say! I referred early and often to Azhia's video and told the girls I worked with to go get themselves copies because it's awesome. I wanted them to have access to the extensive detail and reference material and an expert teacher at their side as they learned the techniques. I also sent them to Kevyn Aucoin's Making Faces for technique, analysis and inspiration and to Trinny and Susannah's What You Wear Can Change Your Life for a basic understanding of color.

Really? I'm looking for really minimal hair help -- one student has waist-length hair (it could use some shining up) and the other has shoulder length hair that just needs a bit of fluffing. It's mostly makeup, brow shaping for the brunette and false lashes for the blonde that I'm thinking of.

Does your friend have any online pics I can look at?

Thank you. I got a flood of responses to my Craigslist posting, I'm sorting through them now. There's some gorgeous work out there.

A few, though, seem to make odd color choices. Lips or eye colors that just don't seem to 'sit right' on the skin tone of the model, or in every shot the eyebrows are either too light or too dark. (i understand going one way or the other for a special effect).

I can't imagine how blind I would have been trying to do this without the internet to look at people's work! Most of it is gorgeous, though, so it's coming down to professionalism and price.
