Thread: Cream tribal costume ideas...pics...please help

Hi Guys,

I purchased a cream crochet bra top and a cream tribal style wool, sparkyl, ribbon belt to wear over trousers/skirt. However Im not very creative or good with looks. What could the belt be worn over? Cream tribal trousers was good but i cant find them anywhere. I am thining of keeping this cream and not dying it as i have tons of cowrie shell bits and silver and turqoiuse bits to match it.

It's cream...doesn't that go with everything?

You mentioned turquoise bits, how about pants and something on top (sleeves, vest, whatever) in turquoise?

I always just wore mine with matching boy shorts underneath, because I'm a naughty leg flasher like that ..g.: Granted, that look is not for everybody!

I like the idea of a bright colored skirt underneath, though. Sounds lovely!

A friend of mine wears hers with pants that have tiered ruffles all down the legs in vintage lace. (Custom Order Only Fluffie Rufflie Dance Pants by KathleenCrowley on Etsy) Looks way awesome.

I'd want some arm things to balance out (oooh, maybe a cuff with streamers) in the same color.

Cute!

1 - get a real bra either built in under neath the bra top or which can be worn under. I prefer built in because it will give you and the bra top more definition.

2 - I would put some coins / beads / feathers / something along the neckline and bottom band of the top. And echo it on the waist band of the belt. This will give the entire costume more dimension. Doesn't have to be a lot.

3 - I might add s few coloured streamers into the skirt part of the belt. These could be very subtle and only a few - think 6 -10 overall. Once again, this will add dimension to the whole.

4 - If you don't go with arm bands made from the same fabric / knitted textiles of the bra and belt, I would definitely find at least one silver arm band.

5 - make sure your skirt does not ride up above your belt. I realize that this photo was simply to show us what you were working with, but it is an important habit to get into.

especially, add some color!!
the thing with tribal fusion costumes is, you can go completely over the top, look at some fabulous outfits out there some dancers wear, have you seen the TON of stuff they have on? and some of it seems so random, but it does actually fit in quite nicely. adding stuff, diversity and color will definitely add dimension to your costume and make it look fantastic ;)

thanks girls. it is mainly a play at home one as i have just spent a small fortune on my proper ATS one

Check out the swap meet to see if you find something cheap in your size. A slinky arm shrug underneath the top but over a bra might be cool. I recall seeing some pix of Rachel Brice in a cream or whitish costume that was really pretty.

Play at home eventually may become play on stage! Definitely take Tahira's suggestions in mind.
