where might one find a costume like this

obviously without the head-dress, and the cups would have to be a nude color (no peekaboo) and the thong? piece would be altered somehow into a belt (with maybe swag fringe on the sides or looped)

but overall where would one find such a lovely extravangance that can be modified into a bellydance costume?

also are there any affordable vendors who sell the types of costumes you might see on Dancing with the Stars? (but in budget range)

Try Neckelmann's. I think they were originally suppliers of show girl costumes.

You can search for showgirl, also for ballroom or Latin dance costumes

I've looked at ballroom costumes, they typically cost MORE than bellydance costumes. Like $1200 for a dress, or hundreds of dollars for a pretty skirt...

this one cost $4,200. i bet you could get the same look applying cut up hip scarves to a regular nighclub style dress or power mesh slip and sewing a bra in
Latin dance dress. [WLC6013] - $4,200.00 : Latin Dance costumes, Practicewear, Ballroom Competition Costumes, custom and made-to-order dancewear

ebay has some low cost latin dresses from china. not sure of quality.

i think sim & legend still make the faux-open cup bras but are likely not bargain. perhaps look for used samba costumes? they do lots of hot open cup looks.

Those people can sew but the can't spell ..l;,
I don't want "sequence" on my dress... And not "over than a hundred ombre pallets"

And the prices are INSANE! I really don't have to feel guilty if I spend $ 1000.- on TWO dance costumes in Istanbul this October...

yes the ballroom costumes are really over priced but the show girl costumes are intense and often involve feathers and wire cages so the expense is justified there.

I saw that too! I always figure that a business's committment to excellence and attention to detail will be about the same for their advertising as for their product.

Low-end BD costumes often have 'sequence' too, even when an American is selling them on e-bay. High end costumes have 'sequins' instead.

Up on Hollywood Blvd there are some "stripper" shops which have rhinestone bra covers. they go for about $150 per pair. Then all you need to do is get creative with rhinestones by the yard for the belt!

This might not be exactly what you are looking for, but there are fetish sites that sell rhinestone bras and belts and accessories that could go the direction of the costume above. You would need to install the rhinestones on a base and put all the pieces together yourself - or pay somebody to do it.

I've actually been working on a costume I've put together from pieces I got on this site:

    Rhinestone Jewelry

It is a great source for tassled pasties too :-D

there is a shop in Sydney Australia called Priscilla and the guy who owns it just makes showgirl stuff. I got a red crystal bra, with skirt - easily made into belt - choker and less elaborate headdress and it was REALLY cheap for the work in it. I guess in US it would've been about $100 for the whole set. So even on the other side of the globe it might be worth enquiring with him.

I happen to own a few ballgowns, being a Ballroom dancer/instructor/competitor. They typically have much higher quality rhinestones-always swarovski (at least compared to the bellydance costumes I've seen) and they are hand glued, not tracts or little metal cased ones, so they don't catch on the costume. They are also usually made in America and England (the high end ones) and almost always one of a kind. Look at the American made Dahlal cossies - more expensive..... just had to comment.

Re: where might one find a costume like this

Lovely topic. most of your posts have cracked me up beyond anything that I've read about my company in a long time.

whatever "used" costumes you can find on the site, those are one of a kind never to be repeated by us pieces made for some of the top dancers in the world (cant say anything about knock-offs). a lot of time was put into making them - and since they are not produced in china nor out of crappy domestic fabrics - i don't have to explain why would they cost so much.

yes, generally Latin and ballroom gowns cost way more then belly dance outfits, not because belly dance is inferior to ballroom, rather because of specifics of the trade. no self respecting top ranked ballroom dancer would be cough dead wearing copy of someone else's dress or cheap Chinese imitation, so each outfit is custom made and tailored to that dancer. another thing is that those dresses take much more abuse then you think, try jogging in a fast pace for 20 minutes on a hot day in any clothes that wasn't designed for it and you'll see what i mean.

i think you will find it interesting to come and see one of the ballroom dance competitions - there is one every weekend (pretty much) all over the country. we go to most of the big ones - maybe you could stop by and see those dresses up close - try them - then tell me that they are not worth every penny.

i don't want to insult anyone on this forum - so don't take this post personalty. but making fun of other people typos is just like making fun of BMW because the announcer talks with funny accent. you have to agree BMW is a great car, you may not like it, but it is a great machine.

Re: where might one find a costume like this

    Andrei -

Thanks for posting. I actually have several good friends who are (or have been) profession ballroom dancers. I have been to their competitions. We have compared our costumes and the abuse which they take. I'd say it is a toss up. A lot of the professional dancers here might buy pret a porter, but then spend a lot of time and money personalizing the look. These retail for somewhere between $500 and $1,000 to start. Then the personalization happens.

I will admit, we are probably spoiled. Many of our costumes - professional level costumes - are designed and fitted for us. Designers such as Bella, Sim and Legend rarely do the same design twice. Even Amira of Pharaonix of Egypt, while she has her annual collection, also does a Couture line. And special orders. Many of the dancers here on this board have personally stood in the showrooms of the above designers and been personally fitted by the creative genius themselves.

And, yes, I do understand what goes into designing and manufacturing costumes. I have an advanced degree in costume design and ran a theatrical costume shop. I have also made many of my own heavily beaded bras and belts with matching skirts.

And lastly, my sets are usually 20 - 30 mins long, non stop. Much as I love my ballroom dance friends, most of them do not dance that long non stop. They dance for the category intro number, than their set (3 - 5 mins) then if the comp has an ending number for their category. Usually, there is time in between to cool off. This is also true even if they have to go through several elimination rounds.

And I am sorry that you are feeling that we were teasing you about the grammatical and spelling errors on your site. But from a purely business point of view, if you want the casual shopper to take you seriously - the ones who have not discovered you via the industry grapevine - you might want to hire a native speaker and ask them to tweek your website. This will help your presentation and peoples perception of your company. AND help them to understand what the big deal is. (Personally, I live in the biggest BMW market in the US. Still not really impressed. The cup holders on the 2007 X5 sucks.)

    tahiradancer.

X5 should not have any cup holders ))))))))

i agree with you about native speaker. but you still have to give it to me - with entire staff consistent of Russians, language on the site is pretty good.

on the topic of "casual shopper" - i have to disagree with you - the product is not intended for average surfer. those descriptions will never do justice to the dress, however simple or not will i try to describe the thing i don't intend to catch a 4 or 5 thousand dollars sale from the site.

about the "workout" - no argument there - we all put out 100% when it comes to dancing - belly or ballroom, but comparing couture lines to ebay's Chinese 100$ replicas is inaccurate. i have seen those dresses - Walmart. what i meant to say in that paragraph was that those costumes are made not only to look good from the distance they are made by the very latest industry standards. I've had one of my clients wear something what we have made for the dance floor to inaugural dinner.

and you are not spoiled - it makes all the difference what you wear when you perform. in other words we all tend to try to use right tool for the job.

and lastly - i didn't feel teased about grammatical stuff, i felt that some explanation is in order, btw, should you order custom dress from us (if you are Latin dancer) it would cost you, probably in the neighborhood of $3000.

Running amok and waaaay off the nude costume with rhinestones, BMW’s crappy cup holders, expensive ballroom sequined topic...

What is the name of the glue used to adhere the stones to the costume, anyone? Thank-you. Please continue with the normal good humored teasing given and received on a regular basis.
