    ghd IV hair styler

I am now the proud owner of a hot pink ghd IV hair styler. Now, how do I not suck with it? My stylist got me hooked on the idea of getting one because every time she cuts my hair, she styles my hair in these amazing curls with her ghd. The curls last for two days! I can hardly get curls to last for two hours using any other method.

I'm curious if anyone has any tips, aside from what they show you in the DVD. I tried playing with it for ten minutes earlier today and it's clear that it'll take some practice to get those tight bouncy curls that my stylist makes and that they show in the video. All I got was some waves with lines through them where I didn't pull the styler smoothly enough, LOL.

Do you have to use the ghd thermal protectant, or are there other (perhaps less expensive?) heat styling products that others have used with success?

    Thanks!

I'd never heard of these before - OMG! I was a bit freaked at the price, but if it makes curls stay in my hair and lasts a long time it might be worth it. What type of hair do you have? I have stick straight fine hair, and unless I have a helix cut styles just do not last.

Have you talked to your hair dresser about tips? If you normally only go there for cuts and not styles, it wouldn't dig into her income if she gave you some help. I would think you could just book time for the same cost as a hair cut.

I have a GHD hair straightener and I LOVE it!!! I havent tried the curling iron though? I would imagine there is a product you can use to prolong the curls, I would ask your stylist what he/she used and definetly use a thermal protectant before use :) Congrats on a GHD they are the best!!

This YouTube video is a short version of the curls tutorial on the DVD that comes with the styler.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oyw8Y5XRWBE]YouTube - ghd Glamour curls - how to curl hair with a ghd IV styler[/ame]

Andrea2--my hair is long and tends to be slightly wavy when it air dries. It's not thick but it's not thin either. If I try to use a curling iron on it, it's an exercise in futility. I've had a little more luck with hot rollers, but even those curls look sad at the end of the day.

When my stylist curls my hair with the ghd, the curls stay bouncy all day. The next day, even after sleeping on it, the curls relax a bit but are still curly and defined--think "Just rolled out of bed rocker chic" or "beach hair curls". Just finger comb and go--love it!

    Re: ghd IV hair styler

I love my GHDs and it did take some practise to get the knack of making curls with them but the end result is fab. A couple of tips that my hair stylist passed on to me:

Hold the straighteners at the top of the tress for several moments before pulling it down to the end.

Grip the straighteners firmly and pull along the tress slowly. A thermal protector product will help make your hair smoother and therefore easier to do that. The secret is not to rush it.

I really recommend getting a product that provides a thermal protection element along with a heat activated curling agent. There are lots on the market that are good and much cheaper than GHD's own product range.

What I like most is the fact that the curls stay in for at least a couple of days, sometimes longer if you have fine hair like mine. This is because you apply heat and product along the entire hair shaft whereas tongs and hot brushes only heat up the sections of hair that directly touch the barrel.
