The ugliest professional costume I ever owned....
...was a Bella!

I have recently spent some hours scanning old pictures of me in my early costumes. And now that I look through that page I find that while some of my self made costumes were not that great, the ugliest thing I ever spent a lot of money on was from Bella. It's that green bra and belt set with the geometrical patterns:
Gallery Raks Sharki
I bought it because it was "different". Yes, it certainly is...
There's another picture of me in it which shows how unflattering it was (but I won't share that with the world). Part of it was that I didn't shorten the bra straps enough. But still....
The second ugliest comes right afterward, the purple-silver set. You will know when you see it
I am glad somebody bought it from me a long time ago!
Have you ever bought a pro costume and later found out that you didn't like it at all?

Re: The ugliest professional costume I ever owned....
I've never had any truly horrendous costumes, but when I first started performing, I accessorized my existing costumes in some scary and not-so-flattering ways. In other words, I'd take an already multicolored bedlah and pile on 2-3 layers of bright patterned or embellished skirts, sometimes with harems, and tuck 2-3 contrasting colored scarves at the hips. Then, I'd go to town with the bangles and baubles. It was truly OTT.
Granted, I've seen other dancers in my area pull off this pouffy look nicely....but they're all at least 5'4" and a bit more shapely. Height and build make a huge difference

I've bought costumes that I've got rid of because they didn't behave themselves-creep up, swivel round, not enough room in the skirt round the knees to actually dance(Hanans are sometimes bad for that).Just not looking nice when I move in them or too heavy like a beatiful Mme Abla I had once-gorgeous but i couldn't move.I like to put a costume on and then forget it. So I fall out with mine if they misbehave.

Well, all the other costumes at Bella's were the usual nice styles - but I had seen so many of them recently that I thought it would be a good idea to buy something that looked different.
It wasn't
Jes, missed you in Honolulu in June! Not sure when surf is up again for me...

This one made me think a little....
I would have to say my ugliest costume was a black and silver one that had one big flower on each bra cup...with a very tantalizing crystal right smack in the center of the costume. i felt like madonna from a very unflattering time period. unfortunately, it was one of my mother's favorite costumes so she made me wear it a lot. i was usually mortified. besides the horrific nipple flowers, the fringe fell halfway down my belly so it looked like i was cut in half by the costume. Still shuddering.....

Girl you had me going back and forth looking for the exact location. I actually didn't notice until you said something.
I had an ugly costume. I don't care either I put it on my Facebook page. My friend and I did a duet and well she picked. She looked hot and I look frumpy.
I told Ruya this, not ever again.

I realize my first little Turkish bedlah wasn't as fashionable as some of my later duds, but I still liked it. I can't say that I've ever owned a costume that I didn't really love and I can look back at them and still appreciate each one. There were many I got that didn't fit quite right, and I sold them on, but that's not the same thing, no my taste was always great, without glitches, :-) at least I think so.

The ugliest pro costume owned was a gift from a friend. Hoped to wear it at the Wiggles after party, but that didn't pan out. Maybe next year.

I had(or still have) red velvet with pony beads on bra and belt. And velvet circle skirt. I may eventually remove the pony beads and add crystals and sequins. It was so matchy matchy, my dance teacher was so kind and lent me a black skirt and veil before our recital otherwise I was a pale red tomato.

I've been racking my brain to see if I had something to offer up on this thread. But if I've ever owned a really ugly costume, I was oblivious. ..l;,
