Thread: P90X! OMG I love this program...

Hey all~

so my roommate, another good friend and I have started doing P90X, this program by beachbody.com I think.

We've been on it for 8 days and I've lost almost 2 inches off my waist.

This program is highly intensive, and really bloody difficult, but SO worth it! Its a 90 day program of extreme workouts and a dietary plan designed to help lose weight, increase strenth, tone, and flexablitity.

I love it. Just thought I'd share. :)

We're eating lots of chicken, lots of veggies, fruit and very little carbs for the first 3 weeks. (lots of chicken because all three of us like it, and its cheaper.) The second 3 weeks, we decrease the meat intake a little and increase the carb intake a little, and by the last 3 weeks, its about evened out. Its teaching about portion control as well. :)

Sounds interesting. What kind of equipement do you have to have available?

I've been curious about this- I've seen it advertised. Do you mind me asking how much it cost, approximately how long do the exercises take (daily), and what equipment do you need? Thanks!

We just started our second week.


So as far as equipment goes, you need a set of weights, I think the minimum for women is 8 pounders. (that's what I'm using.) You need a yoga mat, towles, yoga blocks, and either tension bands or something to do pull ups/chin ups on. You can get an over the door pull up bar for a decent price at sports authority.

The program itself, I'm not sure what the cost was, because our good friend bought it from someone else, and recruited my roommate and myself to do it with him. He comes over every day, and we work out. average workout times are an hour to an hour and a half. (an hour and a half of yoga, its AMAZING!)

As far as buying food goes, last week, we spent over $300 on meat, veggies and tupperwear for all three of us. My roommate does all the cooking, and I wash all the dishes. lol This week, we found some better deals, and saved over $80 on chicken alone.

I'm into my second week, and have lost 2 inches off my waist (and I'm bloated from my monthly friend), and have increased strength already. I've gone from only being able to do half a pull up to doing 9 of them last night. in ONE WEEK!

Its extreme, and its not for everyone, but it is SO worth it for me. :)

Just to add, you don't even need weights if you use bands. Bands can be used in place of weights.

Don't even get me started on all the Horton-isms. They're ALL memorized. I'm glad they included functions where you can just do cues and music b/c I would strangle Tony if I have to hear what kind of soup I'm stirring ONE MORE TIME... ..l;,

My favorite so far is the yoga DVD. Its so intense, and we keep our apartment at about 81 degrees, so it felt like hot yoga. Its me, and two guys, and we are all sweating our ARSES off!

BTW, did you notice (I'm sure you did) that every single workout Tony says it is "the Mother of all P90X workouts"? lol

Yes. And every exercise is his personal favorite. Except the Dreya Roll, which is his PERSONAL favorite (oh, you might not have reached that workout yet. It's a beauty!!). My partner is convinced that him and Dreya are either sleeping together or he has a huge crush on her. Personally, I think he's getting it on with Audra (from abs and yoga). ..l;, But that's just me!

OMG! My guys totally said that about him and Dreya. lol

Yeah, we've *tried* the Dreya roll. I have a hard time getting up with that one.

Wow this sounds like something else....I think I might have to try this! Where do you get it/how much does it cost?

Fantastic program! I've lost 20 lbs in six months. Baby weight but still! I've gotton much stronger! Still waiting for my arm definition though...

I like how Muscle Confusion is given capital letters, like it's something new...l;,

If I didn't work and sit at a desk all day I'd be in great shape.

Any committed exercise routine along with cutting excess kcals and bad fats will over time give results, I'm all for that. As long as people realise they're doing it and no routine is a miracle worker if it sits in it's dvd case.

P90X was my favorite too but I now much prefer the new systems CLX and Insanity.

That is the best soup. My Oma makes it all the time and she gave me the recipe! lmao!

I will have to look into this, because once I am ready I would like to try it. ..g.: I know I will hit a plateau of what I am doing right now eventually. I always do.

I have P90X and was thinking of starting a thread here as a support/check-in system, a la Beachbody's site, though I won't be starting until next week. I have started it a few times and I don't think I have made it through the first week!

I just joined beachbody.com, so...count me in! I"m not online a lot, but...I'll check in when I can. :)

My boyfriend and I are thinking about starting this as soon as we get the money! I could really stand to get rid of some inches and get my stamina back.

Lesedi, it's totally worth the dough, considering what you get (and what you can get out of it). I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've heard a lot of good things about this program. One of our chubby guy friends lost a lot of weight and got ripped after 90 days! It was incredible!

We just got it and are super excited to start. We just need to get a couple things from the walmart... chin up bar, weights, etc.

I've seen an infomercial for Insanity a few months ago...so my question is: is the P90X comparable to Insanity or are they quite different? If different, in what way? I am interested (also when I get some $) to get one or the other, but I can't get both.

You could always check e-bay or craigslist for used ...

I've seen it at Zellers. Maybe WalMart would carry it too?

Yeah we ended up getting a used copy from someone. We're going to start this Monday! I really need to make some drastic changes in my life (food and exercise wise), and I think this is going to help. At the very least, I'm hoping that this will help get me fit enough to start doing some serious hiking and biking again. I'm so excited!
